Im currently on Cerelle (a progestogen only mini pill) & have been on it for only 6 weeks. Im constantly tired, lack motivation, & have been spotting for 5 out of 6 weeks! Now that im no longer breastfeeding, im looking at other options. I have had the implant before, & my periods stopped all together, but i bled heavily with the second one i had fitted. I have been told by my doctor the IUS has a much lower dose of hormones that get released around the uterus, therefore side effects are much less than any contraceptive pill. Im definately swaying towards getting one fitted.

Before making my descision though, i wondered if any ladies could share their positive AND negetive experiences, pros & cons etc.

Thank you! :)

I've just recently had one fitted. Fitting was uncomfortable but not awfully so. Cramped for 24hrs and then had some spotting for about two weeks.

I don't react well to progesterone so was pleased by the claims the levels are low with the ius and it isn't meant to get into your bloodstream. I have experienced some side effects though which must be from it as they are milder versions of what I had on the mini pill. But I'm gonna stick with it for a few months and see how it goes as it's such a convenient option of contraception.

I have an appointment to have one fitted in 2 weeks - eek. I also had an appointment after jack but I bottled it at the last minute, hence Freddie.... Cannot bottle it this time!! I can't have oestrogens as I had a migraine when pregnant with Jack. Major bummer as Yasmin in my mind is the best contraception ever!
Have also been sold on the idea of minimal hormones flying around the body. What sort of side effects have you had MrsB? I desperately don't want it to make me gain weight as I'm trying hard to regain my pre pregnancy figure! The rest I can probably cope with...

I'm really really tired - that's probably the main one. I get mild OCD with checking stuff as well like doors being locked and that's been worse again.

When I was on the mini pill I was always exhausted and became quite anxious. Both things totally disappeared when I stopped.

Too early to tell on the weight gain.... Praying that doesn't happen tho.

Don't worry about it boo - it's certainly not fun, but it's not so bad and is over quick enough. Just feels like a really bad period pain.

I have had 6 of them. It stopped my period completely, which was the goal. They were for medical reasons (long story) I had a hormone imbalance and had it replaced every 6 months so the dose of progesterone it releases would be fresh. I had them done under a general anesthesia though, while my oncologist was doing biopsies, so no pain at all. I liked mine alot! I never felt it at all, unless I sat in some odd position, then a very slight pinch once in a while. No pms/no period. Whoo HooO! :)

I <3 Mirena because it was part of the plan that saved my uterus and allowed me to have our daughter 5 years later. So I may be just a little biased :haha:

I was on the depo (pill injection) for 10 years before ttc. I didn't have a period for 10 years and it took forever to get out of my system so I'd never pick this again until we are done having kids.
I went on the pill after LO but kept forgetting to take it. I wanted to coil fitted so phoned for an appointment. The doctor who fits them at my surgery phoned me to go through everything. She explained that whilst fitting the coil, it can cause damage to the womb. I asked what the statistics were and she said 'very low', I asked what very low was and she said '1 in 200'. Now I thought this was quite high!
I ended up changing my mind and having the implant. I had it fitted 5 weeks ago and I've only had a few days of spotting.

I had the mirena for 18 months and loved it. It stopped my periods which was the aim of it at the time because of medical condition and I had very few side effects. I'd say my main side effect was thrush though which was a pain but not hugely worrying!

I can't say how it felt when it was put in though because they did it during a gynae operation but once I was awake, I only had slight cramping and within two weeks it seemed to be working well.

When I had it out, was also very simple. x
