anyone had a prem at derby city hosp?

Hi,

My nephew is in NICU in Derby - is that the City Hospital? I'm not from Derby so I'm not sure.

(Are aunties allowed on here? I was reading the boards and registered because of this thread).

He was born April 25th at 26 weeks.

The unit seems fantastic (brand new and modern) and the staff have been lovely.

Yes that is the one. Oh i hope he is doing ok?? :hugs: Not sure about the auntie bit hun but sure they won't mind. x

He has had a bleed, we don't know how that will affect him, but Mum and Dad can cope with anything as long as he has a good quality of life. He spent 6 hours on the nose breathing tube yesterday before he got tired out and they put him back on the full ventilator. His bloods and gases are OK and the docs are quite happy with him.

We stay hopeful and positive and he has lots of people sending prayers and healing thoughts. We all love him very much, and he is so beautiful. I am going to see him again tomorrow and I can't wait. I could gawp at him for hours!

Anyway, back to Derby City...have you had a baby there, or has someone you know? What was your experience of it?

I may not be back to reply to your post until Monday as I will be in Derby with my nephew.

I know I'm a noob, but I would appreciate all prayers and good thoughts for our little one x

I hope he goes on to live a very happy healthy life. They are really good in the neonatal care unit at Derby. My cousin was born 2months prem and is now a thriving 18month old girl running about and giggling. I am due to have my baby at city hosp in a few weeks. My thoughts and prayers are with your nephew. All the very best.:hugs:

they are FABULOUS - Fynn was in the NICU there for two weeks after birth - he wasnt prem 37+4 but had NEC.

Seriously they are amazing - we had Sam with us every day obviously and they allowed us to put him in Fynns cot and were so bloody fantastic I cannot tell you how they made an awful time bearable.

You have allocated visiting times for all visitors but granparents are allowed anytime if you give approval. Noone is allowed in if you arent there unless you have given approval. They are really flexible though as my family were coming from Essex to visit so within reason they bent the rules a bit.

ps Lozandevie I had the boys there too and cannot fault any part of the experience - simply fabulous hospital and staff!!

Thank you Lozandevie for your kind thoughts.

Vicky, is NEC bowel trouble? My nephew is being transferred to Notts today for bowel surgery (perforation) and it's very scary, he is so tiny.

The unit has been fab with relatives as we have been visiting from different cities, they put my name down as a NOK so I could visit whenever (within reason).

This waiting is awful and I feel like I can't do anything. It's my brother and SIL's first and very much wanted child, this shouldn't be happening to them :nope:
