hi, my lo is 8 weeks old and since 2 weeks has had digestive problems, severe colic, reflux, snuffy nose and mucousy throat and always bringing feeds back up, she got so bad on friday that we took her to the hospital and given our familly history of allergies the dr prescribed neocate....well since then shes been like a totally different baby! hardly crying not sick once (havent even been using gaviscon!) not snuffly and rash fading!

i have to go back to gp this week but am worried he wont prescribe the neocate as its expensive ( i had trouble getting him to prescribe the gaviscon!)

just wondering what others experiences are of this? x x

Not sure how it works if the hospital have given you it. I would think that you shouldn't have any problems getting a prescription from your gp - a prescription should already be noted on your LOs notes. I struggled to get Nutramigen AA for Holly (same as Neocate), she wasn't put on it til she was 5 months! She was on another hypo formula though, and the dr didn't want to prescribe an AA formula because of the cost.

We get ours from the diatician although we have had a couple of prescriptions from our gp

There shouldnt be a problem if you already have a prescription for it hun :)

Jack was put on it when he was a lot younger and it was a struggle to get there, but once he was on it there was never any problems in getting the prescriptions done

We started on it last week, we moved on from the pepti. I am suprised they perscribed it for you first and not a cheaper one to see if it worked as they all about cutting the costs!!

We were given our pepti by an allergy specialist at the hospital (who LO is till under) He wrote to my docs to say we needed it on repeat.

He also did the same with the Neocate last week.

I was fuming though as when I rang for a perscription at first they gave us the wrong one (neocate active for 12months +) My LO is almost 5 months! After that they perscribed 1 bloody tin! He goes through 1 tin in 2 days!! I told the receptionist and her reply was 'well its expensive!!' I could have punched her! They then perscribed 3 tins.

His dietitian fax them yesterday saying they need to give us 10 tins at a time..........will see what they say, im not holding my breath! x

We had trouble from doctors. The health visitor agreed with us and called a dietitian to prescribe it. All i had to do was pick up the prescription from the doctors. We were given aptamil pepti first but it didnt work. Neocate worked wonders. If the hospital have prescribed it and it works, any decent doctor will too! Also ask to be referred to a dietitian if you havent already been. They will usually meet with you sometime between 4 and 6 months to discuss weaning.

 Dunno what planet they're on sometimes! Holly got prescribed 3 tins and I complained to the dr, he upped it to 6 tins. She was around 8 months at the time though, so had started solids and wasn't drinking so much. I don't think you'll have a problem once the dietician contacts the dr.

Thats crazy! We used to get 8 tins from our first doctor. After she switched to Neocate Active i had trouble getting it right. I needed one more tin of Neocate to mix with the Active because of the taste difference. And the receptionist would only get me one box of Active saying its too expensive! (over the phone) So i went and stood at her desk and she did what i wanted after an argument that LO had NO milk because she wouldnt let us see a doctor at the drop in clinic that morning. She said "Well your baby should eat food by now". Not that it had ANYTHING to do with her, she didnt even know what Neocate was for. So i contacted PALS and complained about her.

 Good on you for complaining!

Im sorry but what the fcuk is it with receptionists thinking they are healthcare professionals and can tell you what you can and cant have on prescription!!! They are there to greet patients, answer phones and make appointments primaraly so who the hell made them the medication police!!

OOh im tempted to complain too! Only thing thats stopping me is she will find out and I practically live there with his repeat perscriptions!

I was fuming though felt like saying 'ill just explain to my 4 months old son that he cant have as many oz as his milks too expensive!' also 'im sorry didnt realise it came out of the receptionists wage!' Grrrrrrrr x
