Hi Chello!
First of all, trust me when I say that the procedure is SO SO common and nothing to worry about at all. About 12 months ago I had an abnormal smear, which meant I had to go and have a Colposcopy test to further investigate. I was so nervous and was imagining all kinds of things including worrying about whether I would not be able to get pregnant as a result - so silly of me!
I did not have the procedure following the Colposcopy (where they take a little snip from the cervix), as my abnormal cells went away on their own, but my best friend has had it, and I went with her. There is nothing to it, you will be in there less than 15 mins probably and will just need to wear a sanitary towel afterwards.
It very important to have these procedures done if you are trying to conceive as you dont want any little 'nasties' affecting your unborn baby - best to get rid!
One thing I would say is that - you say you have recently had a 'clear' smear done? This would indicate that the cells have possibly gone away on their own as mine did (and as can happen in lots of cases), and I dont know whether it is 100% necessary for you to have the procedure done? Especially as your symptoms have stopped to? (bleeding after intercourse). If you're psyched up for it now, and just want it out of the way then it wont do you any harm to go ahead. Better to be safe I reckon.
Good luck, hope all goes well,
xxx
