So hanging out with one of my friends yesterday she was telling me about a friend who was on a fertility diet with sweet potatoes and conceived. I'm a bit of a skeptic-my doctor doesnt really ascribe to that. But I wanted to check if anyone has heard from their doctor to follow one?

(I'm LTTTC #1, on 6th round of clomid and will try anything within reason)

A friend of mine suggested sweet potatoes to me the other day too! She said our mutual friend who has twins swears it was the sweet potatoes she ate! I looked online and couldn't find too much. A lot of places said its wild yams and not sweet potatoes, but I guess some studies found that fertility was boosted while eating them and others saw a more negative impact. I might try it. Haven't decided yet!

I'm having a sugar/insulin blood test done next week and then I have to return to my fertility specialist ten days after to meet with him and a nutrionist. They are going to be putting me on a fertility diet as my doctor said it aids with women who are diagnosed with PCOS.

I haven't heard of a doctor suggesting a fertility diet other than just eating healthy but I did follow a high protein diet before my IVF cycle. I think the ferility diet is the same as a low GI diet which is recommended for PCOS sufferers. I also heard it was yams and not sweet potatoes but I don't think we get yams here.

I never did either. But I believe it is a low GI diet, he said its similar to a diabetics diet.

He's gearing me up for IVF... I'm nervous but excited and I can't wait to start the treatment, hopefully in September.

No doctor ever told me about fertility diet, but I've been reading a lot on Internet. This website gives good start what to do.
I have to be honest with, it's hard to follow it completely (at least for me).

Thanks MalaMae! That's a good article, I think I've already heard of most of those, but yes, very hard to stick to! My biggest things I haven't been able to give up are soy and caffeine, but I will try!

Caffeine and chocolates for me- I can't give up on that :)

I follow "Emma Cannon's" diet in "The Baby Making Bible" She is an fertility acupuncturist but recommends food for different times of your cycle.

I also see an acupuncturist who tells me to eat protein rich foods like steak and lots of leafy greens, especially before I ovulate. Lots of nuts/seeds; oily fish (basically Essential Fatty Acids). No or limited white carbs, chocolate, caffeine, alcohol, crisps etc

The specialist at the IVF clinic told me to drink Green Tea

Actually my acupuncturist gave me a similar diet. It's meant to build me up. Lot's of protein, fatty fish and lot's of fat in general. He said
I should eat a big hearty breakfast and to worry less about avoiding stuff and focus more on eating lots of good things. Been doing it about 3 weeks now - I feel like I have more energy and less like... weak.

I haven't been put on a fertility diet. However, I have read quite a lot and have included various foods in my diet along the way. I did try a spell of regularly eating sweet potatoes (a portion of, a couple of times a week) and am not pregnant. Maybe I needed to do it for longer. Maybe I needed to eat more of them. Who knows! I've increased the amount of water I drink and I'm trying to eat nuts and seeds every day, even if only in small quantities; however, I've read this week that nuts shouldn't be eaten during the LP as they are harder to digest!

To be honest, it's a bit of a minefield! There are also other foods I'm eating/drinking or avoiding (or trying to!) which are linked more to my personal circumstances.
