I'm 37 weeks and had a membrane sweep yesterday. i've had some cramping, dhiarrhea and nausea and irregular contractions but that's it. has anyone else had one? any successful? my baby's obviously engaged but he's posterior would this make a difference?

I can't answer your question cos I haven't had mine yet!

But could I be cheeky? Can u let me know what your MW did and does it hurt? I have my one on Friday and I'm quite nervous x

I had one today (albeit it wasnt successful due to my cervix) and it was very uncomfortable. Bit sore but nothing to worry about.x

OP she told me that if it was going to do anything it would happen in 48 hours. The posterior thing doesnt make a difference from what midwife told me.

Posterior isn't optimal, but it doesn't mean it can't work. I'm still up in the air about a sweep at my appt tomorrow. My internal exam last week was enough to give me spotting and cramping but no labor.
You're full term, but still very early. If a baby isn't ready to come out, there could be a reason.

I had one today too. Cervix was favourable and soft and positioned well. I've been a bit crampy and had some strong Braxton hicks but apart from that.. nothing:shrug:
Hoping to be woken with contractions later, that is if I actually get to sleep!! Losing a small bit of plug and a bit of bloody show but nothing massive.

Mine didn't hurt at all wasn't really uncomfortable either just a bit strange having a random woman put fingers up there lol. i couldn't feel her do anything really it was all over quite quickly but what i think they do is put their finger in your cervix and sweep around the inside of it to strip the bag of waters from the cervix its meant to release a hormone that kick starts labor? best of luck, mine didn't work but apparently 50% do so hopefully you'll be in that category :) x

I had a "membrane strip" done by my OB in my last pregnancy. I kind of assumed they were the same as the "sweeps" the UK women refer to, but now I think mine might have been a bit more invasive (for lack of a better description).

My doctor was certain it would work quickly, even said, see you tomorrow...I was in labor hours later, and I did see him tomorrow, to deliver.

Mine was painful and his finger was way inside my cervix. I read somewhere a UK woman said a doctor came in while she was on the labor ward and gave her what he referred to as a "good sweep," which she described differently from her others. So I'm thinking this might be more along the lines of what my doctor did.

All that to say, mine definitely worked. I was 1 cm and hadn't lost any of my plug as of my appointment. I left with my plug falling out, spotting/show and was contracting within the first couple hours. It worked for me!

I had my first last Tuesday the 5 and had similar symptoms. Random contractions, diarrhea, nausea, loss of mucus plug, painful period type cramps. His head was at -1 station and i was 1cm dialated and 50% effaced. Still pregnant! Going for my second one on Wednesday the 13.

Same here...Was told 24-48 hours if it's going to work, and my dd was posterior. Stayed that way thru birth in fact. Strip worked like a charm, but the process of dilation and pushing was longer because of her position.

I had my first one last Tuesday at 38+4, 1cm and 50% effacement. Nothing happened. I had my second one yesterday at 39+4, still 1-2cm and the only change was that my cervix was much more anterior (could've been bc I placed my fists under my lower back during the exam to help her find my cervix).

I'm planning on doing the deed tonight and drinking RLT everyday from here on out. I started drinking it at 38 weeks, had almost immediate painful contractions for 2 hrs during the first day I tried it. After that first day the tea did nothing for me, so I stopped drinking it regularly.

My mid-wife told me yesterday that she has been reading a few journal articles lately that suggest that the prostaglandin that stimulates labor may be found in the actual seminal fluid instead of in the sperm. She suggested that we have sex every other day in order to ensure that the fluid has time to accumulate to a sufficient amount (same theory we read while we were trying to conceive). She told me that bc we've been having sex pretty much everyday with no luck. Similar to the RLT experience, I had cramping after we tried sex for the first time (it had been a while since we did it bc it got uncomfortable), and then nothing every other time we did it. *BTW* once we started having regular sex after my first very uncomfortable cervical check, the second check was way less painful!
