I am due to be induced early, as I was with my last pregnancy. Last time I ended up having an epidural which slowed everything down and that was when the drip had to be used...this time I cannot have anything more than gas & air as I've developed an allergy to opioids, plus being GBS+ means that I probably won't be allowed to labour in water which I was really leaning on as a means of coping with the pain. :nope:

Have any of you been through the induction process on minimal pain relief?

I was induced at 37 weeks exactly due to low amniotic fluid... No pain relief other than hot showers, gas and air... Mixed feelings about the gas and air...it made my labor foggy and towards the end during transition I was convinced I was dying...

Its definitely doable ...for me the whole process was 49hrs from first prostgladin gel application, to birth.

Good luck!

I was induced in all three of my labours and I used TENs and G & A. I find the gas doesn't work well for me at all but TENs was brilliant. I had relatively quick labours but they were intense.

I was induced and just had gas & air...didn't find it all that helpful as far as relieving pain was concerned but it really helped me to breathe through the contractions and stay calm.

Good luck, you'll do great! :)

I had the hormone drip a few weeks ago and I had g and a but it confused me with the breathing so didn't help, had diamorphine which was good as it calmed me down, but by the time the drip was up high I did it with nothing as the diamorphine had worn off.

I had 2 paracetamol at 7am and gave birth at 12.16pm.x

I was induced at 40+10 due to decells when I went to be monitored after my waters went. Anyway not important. I was on max amount of syntocinon and getting 4-5 ctx every 10 minutes with no pain relief. I did get water injections for back labour and took 2 sucks of gas and didn't like the noise it made so gave it up lol. As I was essentially already in early labour it was nice and quick though - 8.5 hours from drip to baby.

Good luck, you can do it :-)

I was induced at 42 weeks and advised it would take ages. When contractions started I was only 2cms so no pain relief given, 4 hours later I was checked (they won't check more often) and I was pushing. No pain relief at all. I found the ball the best thing. I would bounce on it leaning my head on hubbys lap while he put pressure on my lower back.

Wow, lots of positive stories! Thank you all so much, I feel much better about things now, reading all your stories :)

I was induced with Cervadil, seaweed rods (lam... something, I think), and Cytotec. I never knew I was in active labor because I didn't think the pain was bad enough. I did get an IV drug, but just a few minutes before I delivered (only because they made me think it would be hours/ days before I delivered). I would have been fine without getting it and wouldn't if I had known I only had a few more minutes. The nurse really should have checked me first as I think I was ready to deliver when she gave me the meds. They gave me pitocin after I delivered, but there was no reason for it (other than I guess that's standard protocol); I had less than average bleeding at delivery.

I had an induction with no pain relief stall, I just kept moving.. I found that helped me a lot, walked and walked the corridors.. They thought I was a. It mad but who cares, sitting down just makes pain more intense

When they told me to go for a walk, we WALKED for the full 90 minutes. I was determined to not need to sit down, I was also determined that I was not going to be sent home still pregnant. So we kept on walking. Hospital corridors can however start to look the same if you find yourself lost!

I was induced 2 weeks overdue.

I was in labor for 3 days- 53 hours.
I didn't have pain relief for two of those days. It wasn't bad but, it was not very fun.

Lets put it this way. I didn't cry! lol

Being induced and it almost failing they tried everything. I wouldn't suggest the folly bulb if you have that where your from. :/ It hurt lol
