I think I have an oversupply problem and baby is becoming fussy and has frequent, explosive green slimy poos. I feel so bad. I read information here https://www.llli.org/FAQ/oversupply.html, but was wondering if anyone else had this problem? You can definitely have too much of a good thing. She is always gagging/choking on the breast too.

I have this hun, what I try and do is let her latch on for a bit and then when the 'let down' has started, I take her off and get the worst of the flow out onto a bit of muslin, and then pop her back on.

Have to say, easier said than done as she can scream blue murder at me when she's hungry.... have to do it though otherwise within seconds she'll be choking! :dohh:

what poppeteer has advised sounds good to me, i was going to suggest expressing the for a few minutes to start with.

It's a problem I managed to sort by doing exactly what Poppeteer advised, eventually my let down eased off most of the time, but just this morning thanks to Sam sleeping more at night we both ended up with a facefull of milk. Instead of choking he now just thinks it's hilarious and laughs his head off..

Yep....express some off 1st to help with the forceful flow. I heared too much foremilk can result in green poo so try to empty the whole breast before you swap or offer the other side. So feed baby then wind (if necessary) and put back on the same breast, don't swap until baby fusses. My baby generally only feeds off one side at each feed anyway, she only occasionally feeds from both.

Thanks for the replies. Her choking usually comes halfway through the feed. I think I get a second let down or something. I am trying to empty each breast before switching. But that is usually two or 3 feeds on the same breast...and no matter what, if I squeeze, I get milk out.

We really struggled with this for, I would say, the first 6-8 weeks. She had the green pooh, the terrible wind/colic caused by her swallowing air as she was spluttering so much and she was really upset about it all, so was I. I found that letting her feed "downhill" helped. So I would lie down and she would kind of feed on top of me so gravity worked away from her. Also, I would try and feed her before she got really ravenous so she wouldn't get too frustrated and suckle too hard. I think you just have to work through it though. Soon enough she will be getting frustrated cos it's not coming out fast enough! You can also google "overactive letdown".

We had exactly the same problem... Harry would be choking on the excess milk to start with, then I tried expressing a bit first and now things have settled down. But if ever he does get a bit more than he was expecting, he just spits it back at me and starts laughing now!!
