I'm looking for some advice on the above, my dd is ten and suffers from severe tic's I'm waiting for a referral from doc but would appreciate some advice x thank you x

Hiya, does your son suffer from vocal tics or motor ticks? My son suffers from mild vocal and motor ticks due to anxiety, I can't offer much advice as he is just monitored in regards to the tics. According to the child psychiatrist we saw, for Tourette's they look for complex motor and vocal tics in other words, words and not just sounds for the vocal and more complex movements rather that just clicking and flicking etc for the motor tics. How old was he when they started? Want to send some :hugs: and offer an ear if you want to chat x

It's my daughter and she has both sometimes it's noises and other time it's physical, I'm starting to think maybe she is ADHD as well, waiting for her referral now so hopefully won't be to long, thank you for replying x x

Sorry yes dd! Yes my son has ADHD and also Aspergers. They say it comes in threes... Tic disorders are a contraindication for meds for adhd as when one is present as it can cause Tourette's. This is why my ds is not medicated although his psychiatrist things he should be on meds but I don't want to risk it. I dont see why she is ignoring the contraindication.
What age was your dd when the tics started? Hope you get you app soon it is so frustrating waiting on them don't u think?

She was only about 5 when they first started but over the years they have got worse and worse, it is frustrating waiting! I feel for her alot as she gets a lot of stick at school. But I am doing all I can I think, bless her x

Poor thing, it must be awful, I hope she gets the help she needs soon! X

yes- my sister has tourettes syndrome,

you will need to see a specialist as you have said. with tics- A LOT of people grow out of them- i also had tics when i was around 11 yrs old, then they vanished a year later. my sister used to have terrible tourettes but now she's an adult you would never know she even has it, puberty is the worst time for it as the hormones and changes to your body send your nerves flying around. it might be the case of having to wait a few years to see if things get better before resorting to medication which can often be harmful. my sister got bad depression from some of her meds and skin outbreaks.

although- its rare for actual tourettes to hit before puberty (i.e in childhood), its usually around 13, when puberty 'flicks the switch' so to speak
