Hi girls :flower:

I had my first consultant appointment yesterday, i'm high risk, and on top of a whole host of other tests and scans i need to go for she told me i'll need to start injecting Fragmin daily for the rest of the pregnancy to thin my blood.

I'm petrified of needles so much so that as soon as she told me i started to  like a big girl! Does anyone else have to do this and maybe could give me some reassurance about it not being too horrible.

My OH works away from home 12 days out of 14, so he can't even do the training for him to inject me instead.

My friend gets these injections to. Just remember that you are doing it for your baby, without it he/she could die. Good luck and be strong!

I've been injecting these since I was 4 weeks!! To be honest its a bit of a pain at the start and you do bruise quite a bit but I've got used to it now! Unfortunately after 3 losses and 5 operations if it keeps my lo alive I'm prepared to do anything!! xx

yes i've had 3 losses to but mine was "just bad luck" well thats what my doctor said, after all my tests came back clear. I'm sure you are a strong lady Good luck with those injections xoxoxoxoxo

Hi huni, im having blood thinning injections for the whole of my pregnancy and for 6 weeks after the birth. Im the same about needles so df does them for me, they didnt give us any training for administering them though, just sent us home with boxes full of sringes and a sharps bin! lol Im not going to lie to you, its not fun, but its really not too bad either, you get used to it, it only stings a little and at the end of the day its for your health and your babies :)

My tip would be always do the injection where you can pinch a nice bit of fat lol a nice fleshy bit, just pinch the skin and in it goes, just under the skin and if you do it slowly it hurts alot less :) xx

I was given aspirin to thin my blood instead of injections after i had 6 losses in the last 4 years. I can't do injections very well. :)

I'm on Fragmin and aspirin (after 2 losses - I have high natural killer cells plus a prothrombin gene mutation)

Framin started at around 5 weeks and continuing till at least 23 weeks. I had a real phobia about stomachs & injections and have managed to get over that - although I never had much problem with needles.

They are small needles and it definitely gets easier - I'm now bruising a lot less than I was too!

I take aspirin with the clexane as they both do different jobs. I actually don't have a blood clotting problem, all my tests were clear - they think my mc's were due to a septate uterus which I had re-sectioned earlier this year - but where I live they kind of throw everything at you once you've been through 3 or more losses. The clexane (ie:fragmin) is such a low dose that I've been told it won't do any harm as the blood tends to clot more with pregnancy even normally. I hope anyone with a needle phobia having to inject gets through it and I agree with lightweight the bruising gets better xxx

Thanks for all of the replies it's great to know that whilst icky i'll be able to get on with it for my baby.

So sorry for all the losses girls :hugs: i didn't realise that fragmin was used to help treat those problems too. I'm on it as my mum died from blood clots in her lungs caused by a dvt. That immediately puts my sisters and i at high risk when pregnant so i will have to take the fragmin during pregnancy and for a few weeks after like someone else said.

I feel so much better knowing that there are other people out there doing it everyday and coping with it!
