So my OH and I are wanting to get our own place together. He is currently in school and also working two jobs right now. I am pretty sure he still doesnt make enough to provide for us all so I am going to apply for WIC and Medicade. Is it hard to apply for WIC and Medicade? How long does it usually take for them to get back to you and tell you you are approved?

Any other info about it would be great also!:flower:

from my experience, medicaid is harder to apply to than WIC, but still not extremely difficult. If you have all your paper work in line, it takes less time. You have to have proof of residence, proof on income, and some other stuff.

WIC is pretty simple, they will schedule you a certification appointment and all you really need is proof of residence and income, and if u are pregnant some WIC offices require a positive pregnancy proof from a doctor. WIC is so helpful, so many mothers have WIC because formula is so damn expensive! WIC will usually tell u right away if you are approved, whereas medicaid might take a week or two.

I made a appt with WIC they got me in when i was pregnant and im still getting food for for "me" and gracelynns WIC. THey went off of my income even though i live at home with my parents.
Medicad is what i got for insurance before i had to choose the between two plans such as Unsion and i forget the other one. I sent my application in and got the letter approving gracelynn for it back in like 4 days.

WIC is far easier to apply for then Medicaid.

I applied for WIC when I was 6 months pregnant with my son.. I got it immediately, I waited a few weeks for the appointment, but received it. Now I have to go every 3 months for a class about nutrition or something to get my benefits applied to my card. I get a lot of food since I'm BFing and I also get 96 cans of baby food for Kenneth. If you FF than you will get cans of formula, I know it varies from state-to-state but here in TX you get 6 cans of formula.

I applied for Medicaid when I was 6 months pregnant as well. I applied in Feb 2010 and received my id card for myself in April 2010. It didn't take too long because I think they expedited it since I was due to give birth in a few months. I'm not 100% sure how it works for children, since my Medicaid immediately went over to LO, so I didn't have to worry about applying for it for him. Have you looked online to see if with your OH's income you'd be eligible? When LO is 1 year old, he won't have Medicaid anymore and we have to switch to CHIP, it's not bad because it doesn't cost THAT much but it's not completely free. Here in TX to get Medicaid you have to like literally make less than $200/month and be like in poverty, it's really ridiculous! Good luck!

EDIT: I just saw your from TX. You could call 211. That's like the main number that gives you help regarding all of the state financial help. You can speak to someone, let them know your situation and what your OH makes, they'll let you know if you qualify for anything else including Medicaid and WIC. You might qualify for food stamps, child care assistance and utility assistance.

I am on both and I found it to be fairly simple.

You can go to your city's Tri-County Health place if it's available.

With WIC I made an appointment and went in and was approved just like that. They printed out my vouchers the very day. I go in every few months to have Tori weighed to make sure she's eating right and get new vouchers. It was very simple. I just showed them my OH's paycheck stub and that was that.

With Medicaid it was just as simple. I went in, showed the paycheck stub and got a temporary card. Got my permanent card in the mail a few days later and when Tori was born I called and got her added on in a few seconds.

It depends on the place you live but it can be really simple. Good luck! :flower:

Haha I guess I am the only one who had a HORRIBLE experience! I applied for Jayden's insurance with medacaid December 2010 and did not get apporoved until 2 WEEKS AGO!!!! (March 2011) The ladies were horrible with getting everything done. They give me a list of stuff they need...I give it to them...weeks later they add something else to the list. I had to switch case workers because mine NEVER answered her phone or returned our calls. Finally I got a good case worker a month ago and actually worked with me and it got done so quickly.

With WIC I called for the appointment on Tuesday or Wednesday of last week and I have the appointment tomorrow! The lady was rude, but it got done quickly. I was told that I would be aprroved no matter what if I had Medacaid, but we will see if that is true.

I am also on both, with WIC you are approved right away at your appointment, Medicaid takes a bit longer, if I recall it took about a month or so for me, then when I added Arianna I got her information within 2 weeks.

For me they said that we made too much money to be on WIC, BUT if we were to get Brayden on the Access Card (medical assistance) that would automatically make us eligible for WIC also.
But we applied for Brayden's Access Card and it took about maybe 2 months? to get it approved and everything. Then we made our WIC appointment and tada here we are today. Haven't had to buy one can of formula yet
BUT after we had already been told his Access Card had been approved and we just had to wait to get it. The hospital THEN chose to tell us they could have helped us with everything to get it much quicker :dohh::dohh:
Can't remember what department it was that did it but you could ask!

When I was pregnant I applied for Medicaid card on a Tuesday and I got it by Saturday.
I have had a lot of problems with it though. While pregnant they sent me two cards every month with different numbers on it. Now they send me a card for my son and a Micael VanMeter but I don't know anyone by that name so idk.

Wic is really a great program for the most part. Its not always a great idea to listen to there every word though. With my LO they said I was feeding him to much so I started feeding him less but gave him more than they wanted. Now even though I've fed him atleast two ozs more than they wanted they say he is under weight for his height.

With my WIC they will be giving me enough to give Jayden 28 ounces a day, which she isn't even at yet. She normally has 21-22.

i cant remember how many cans of formula she gets but i know here in april gracelynn gets
36 jars of baby food
24 cans(13oz)of baby soy liquid formula
and 2 boxes of cereal

I was on Medicaid and WIC when pregnant with Madison. Obviously I am still on WIC.

In order to get Medicaid I had to have proof of residence, proof of income, a signed note from my Dr saying I was pregnant. It took like 2-3 weeks to get approved. I got 2 insurance cards in mail for me and when I had Madison they sent her 2 cards also.

To get WIC you need to have proof of insurance, proof of residence, proof of pregnancy and you get approved right away.

I get 11 cans of formula for Madison each month.

When she is 6 months old I get 2 boxes of baby cereal and I think 36 jars of baby food.

I just got approved for WIC yesterday and it was so quick and easy! And I found out I get 11 cans of formula a month until she is 6 months then it will be like 9 or 10 because she will be doing solids/baby cereal.
