for gifts?

Jayden wants a Playstation 3 for Christmas which goes for $299 + 12% TAX brand new. I found one in the used ads for $200 in mint condition which I am going to pick up this morning.

Amanda wants two expensive gifts as well....and with one I will be searching used ads for. And Keeley wants an armoire which I am searching as well.

Anyone else?

sort of. the boys asked for some more fancy dress outfits, so i told them i could get 2 new in town for about £20 OR i could probably get them 4 or 5 used off ebay - they asked for the more option. in total i think i have spent about £45 and have got 15 outfits.

i dont usually for xmas.

wow what a great find! I really should search the ads more

i didnt really think about it but got morgan a bounce & spin zebra off ebay that had only been used once for £30 instead of £50ish

I've got Tegan a few bits, but I don't tend to buy second hand for xmas.

I don't generally like to buy second hand either, however, they are asking for some expensive gifts. The playstation was a steal of a deal and it's practically brand new. Truly looks like it never had been used.

Keeley wants an armoire for Christmas so that she can put her clothes away properly. Afterall, she moved in with us in June when we really didn't expect it. LOL Well I saw an estate sale in the ads and someone is selling a dresser w/mirror, an armoire and two nightstands for 125.00 and it looks very nice. Going to go and see it today.

The way I look at it, if I can save money this year and especially with the taxes, then I am happy and the kids are happy as they got what they want.

I think it is funny that tax always appears extra. I hope you folks a good at mental arithmetic :haha:

I think as long as it is in a good condition it should be fine getting used products :)

Got Keeley the bedroom set for $100!! :happydance: She gets it early but we've saved really hundreds of dollars on this set. To buy new would a few thousand if not more.

A photo of the armoire but you get the idea :) It's nicer then the set we have in our own room.

ive just bought logan a new wardrobe off ebay it was 6 months old and £20 instead of £100 brand new (it still has the plastic on the front door) !

i have also bought him a buzz lightyear off ebay for xmas its a used 1 but it was £12 instead of £50 and in excellent condition , he isnt going to care where it came from and while he is this small im sure he will change his mind about liking it in a flash !

I quite often buy used for Xmas, especially video games and DVDs  My kids are fine with it - they decided long ago that they would rather have 5 used games (in A1 condition of course) than 1 new one especially as they tend to sell/exchange them once they are completed anyway :)

I also do the same with games consoles, laptops and Ipods etc - with 3 older kids I just couldn't afford to get them all new :nope: Even Kaylum has a pre-loved rocking horse LOL - £15 instead of £80+ it looks new, he'll love it and never care or know that someone else loved it first :happydance:

I am doing a lot of second hand shopping this Christmas, I spend £130 on Minipose's presents (a mixture or second hand, reduced or shopping around to get bargains). Had I brought him all the same gifts for their full retail price I would have spent £345.

When other people ask about gifts for me I always make it clear secondhand is fine, I don't see the point of buying a book for £7 when it is also avalible for £2 secondhand. I don't even care if its a bit battered, as long as the pages are all there that is all that matters.

I don't do secondhand shopping for other adults or other people's children though as I am aware other people prefer items to be new and the aim of a gift is to get someone something they will like.

I am using ebay i got Mollie a 3rd gen 8gb ipod touch for £87 saved me around £80.

V xxx

i havnt for christmas but i bought him a mamas and papas lion rocker off ebay as part of his birthday presents for £20 in mint condition instead of £80! :D
