Hi everyone - I am now 5-7 weeks pg with #2 (unsure of when I ov'd - due for a scan 11/7), and I am a HELLP syndrome survivor from pg #1. If you don't know what HELLP is - please familiarize yourself with the symptoms because when I went into the hospital with severe abdominal pain, I had heard of pre-e, but never what HELLP was, or what the symptoms of it were. I had pg-induced hypertension starting at 36 weeks. That entire last 4 weeks, I went for BP checks twice a week, and was gaining 5-6 lbs a week. The swelling was ridiculous. Each visit they checked my urine for protein, but I never showed any in the office, and I was never diagnosed with pre-e. I had a visit on a Thursday at 40w, and the next day was when my epigastric pain started. Family and friends were telling me "oh, you finally got heartburn!" (I have never had heartburn a day in my life, so I didn't have anything to compare it to.) The pain continued and got worse over the weekend, I developed a nasty headache to go with it, and by Sunday night I was in unbearable pain. I called my OB, told him my symptoms, and he said to get to the hospital immediately. So we grabbed the bags we had packed and headed out at 11:30 p.m. I was admitted to an L & D room, had lots of blood drawn, peed in a cup, and was hooked to a variety of monitors. My systolic BP was in the 190s, diastolic in the 110s. A nurse comes in sometime later and says my doctor was on the way in to talk to me. Dr. B came in my room shortly after 4:00 a.m. and gave me my diagnosis of Class I HELLP and said I'd be going in for a C-section because I was at term and not favorable to be induced. He told me I may have to have a blood transfusion because of my super low platelet count (I didn't), and that we didn't have much time to spare before the bleeding could become a big complication, and my daughter was delivered about an hour later. She was totally healthy, not a thing wrong with her. My labs continued to get worse for about 24 hours post-delivery before they started back in the right direction, and I recovered enough to go home that Thursday (she was born early Mon morning).
I have been told I'm now considered "high-risk", but am not sure what that will entail with doc visits or other considerations. I have my OB physical the same day as my dating scan in 2 1/2 weeks and will know more then. I wish you ladies all H&H 9 months, I hope you all keep this updated with how your current pg's are going. I will try to update with any new info or changes.
