Creapy but im going with the idea of a hoax.
Not one person reacted to hearing anything, no one seemed concerned even in the last video there where people walking around not noticing anything, not the behavour of if these sounds where real.
Most of those places where built up areas so in that many places a fair few thousand people would have heard it yet no reports on the news.
Some of those places dont look like january concidering hoe much bad weather and snow some of them get that time of year and the canada one had very leafy trees si not january.
Im wondering if it might be leading towards a film advert like war of the worlds type of thing

Well i think the mystery has been solved the original video at the top of this page is from malaysia and the malasyian government investigated into it and turns out it was a noise made by a palm oil factory when they released steam from the factory, they even recreated the noise at the factory so seems it was man made noise, also been proven that the other videos in youtube are fakes and people have just reused the original noise and putit into their videos.

Also there are reports in few places in America of kids going around playing tje sound file on a sound system trying to scare people late at night

Its not just that one, there are quite a few from all over and a few news reports too!

But nearly all of them have neen proved to be fake and the sound file.
It was originaly a factory noise in malaysia so everyone jumped on it and made their own all around the world using the file from the original and claiming it was heard all over. There are somthing like 60 odd videos claiming it is real but they even have a bird chirping in the same place, most video files can even be found
