After I had blood work taken last Friday, my midwife gave me a call to say that my iron levels are still low and I needed some tablets. so there was a prescription waiting for me to take from the surgery, then I went to Boots pharmacy and got my tablets..

I'm taking.. Fersaday 100 mg tablets.. but underneath it say ferrous fumarate 322mg

So I gotta take twice a day and I wonder.. is it 100mg or 322 tablets? and if I take two, would be 200mg or 644mg of iron?

sounds more than 17mg I used to take from prenatal vitamins.

Is it best to take it with some OJ?

It also recommend not to take the tablet with tea, milk or eggs because it won't work as well..

does anyone take iron tablet in here?

I would guess that it is 322mg of ferrous fumarate, which equals 100mg of actual iron. Taking them with OJ is a good idea as vit C boosts iron absorption. (I am not taking iron tablets now, but have in the past)

Oh- and don't be worried if it makes your poo go dark or a funny consistency, that'snormal. But if you get any other side effects let your midwife know!

Hi I was prescribed Iron tablets at my 29 week appt, currently taking 200mg of ferrous sulphate (equiv. to 65mg if ferrous iron) three times a day with a glass of o.j / Ribena x

Hi, I take Ferrous Fumarate 210mg tablets 3 times a day as well as my usual Pregnacare. I habe no idea how the dosage works though sorry.

It is better to take with OJ as it helps your body absorb the iron, dairy products interfere with the absorption so best to avoid.

You may find they make you feel slightly nauseous when you first start them and will also affect your BM! x

I've just finished a course of these, taking three a day. I didn't pay any attention to the mg, I just figured if the midwife had prescribed them they were obviously ok.

They made me feel so much better, I've felt great since taking them from week 26 - 30. But as other posters have said, beware dark coloured poo.... its nothing to worry about!

I'm on them.
They can make you feel very ill so take them with a meal or before bed
x

Sorry, bowel movement..

like others said they go dark almost black green and you can become constipated or go the other way and have very loose stools! x

Thanks for clearing that up! hehe I must of had a brain freeze or something for a moment...lol

Definately take with vitamin C, also my midwife reccomended black strap molasses to me. Was no good to me because sickness but its meant to help as she said there is a lot of iron in them and you take them on a spoon. x
