Just wondering if any of you use goat milk for your LO?

We have had ongoing issues with LO and her eating since for ever and a child osteopath suggested goat milk today... We have ordered some Nannycare goat milk online... just wondering if anyone has used it and why??

Thanks :O)

Have you spoken to your GP or HV? A couple if years ago the Department of Health advised that goats milk was not recommended for babies, including goats milk formula.

You can get hypoallergenic formulas if you think your LO is allergic to cows milk.

I hope you get her issues sorted.

Thanks just trying to do a bit of research as well before we make up our mind. Have spoken to HV and Doctor and both have advised me that if she was allegic to cows milk she would have every symptom of a cows milk allergy, rather than the majority of them.

They refuse to refer me to a peadatrician with ref to her issues and are not concerned that she is in constant pain, doesn't sleep and criesall day long, she has lost weight and isn't gaining yet they are not concerned. No one wants to help with this which is why I am looking into the more natural approach and alternatives.
They do keep trying to tell me she is a whinging baby and I need to get used to it. I am not sure TBH call it mothers intuition but I don't want to be fobbed off.
TBH she has been alot better today after her session with the osteopath and we are seeing a cranial specialst tomorrow about her diaphragm.... I guess with it been so difficult to get hold of I will be glad to have some in the house. I have also read the reviews about the Department of Health obviously advising against giving it to babies and children. Just to be informed, however I have also read and met a few mummies who have rave reviews about the changes in their LOs since using goats milk so I guess it will be up to us if we decide to use it... If anyone else has used it before and had success despite the "warnings" it would be nice to hear from you too. I know things change over the years about what is deemed safe and unsafe for adults and children alike.. So I fully appreciate your response evasmummy :O) xxxxxx

Hi i really feel for you, and know exactly what your going through. i have used nannycare goat milk and its fantastic. my 3 year old daughter is now on st helens goats milk, my 1 year old son is still on nannycare goats milk, we tried every milk possible with my son and he was a nightmare with them all, as soon as we put him on nannycare he was a different baby. if you want to talk more about it just pm me. im currently trying different milks with my daughter who is 10weeks as i think shes allergic to both cows and goat milk.
xx

Just a somewhat amusing side story..... When I was a child in the 1970's, we went to family event and one of my cousins brought his wife and 2 kids....and their goat! Their kids had allergies and they travelled with their goat. They were odd people, yes.

Oh how awful and brings back memories of the start my little one had, for 2 months she was in constant pain, I was bf'ing, topping up with ebm and formula and pumping and she wouldn't take more than 500mls a day and dropped from 75 to 9th centile. I saw 5 GPs, I demanded reflux meds, 1 GP reluctantly prescribed them after telling me reflux is 'trendy'!

I honestly think they all thought I was just an anxious mother because of the death of our first daughter, which as you know is true but I knew something was wrong.

Finally the 5th GP I saw had worked in paediatrics and had treated CMPI babies and she's the first GP who suggested a dairy free diet for me (by this point I was exclusively pumping) and prescribed Aptamil Pepti for any top ups.

The difference was amazing and she's a much happier baby. My GP also referred us to an NHS dietician.

I've never tried Sophia with goats milk because I've been told by the dietician to avoid all animal milk because of the similar proteins. Soph is also Intolerent to soya.

You can buy hypoallergenic formulas Over the counter, perhaps it would be an idea to try one of those and if it helps ask for a prescription.

It really helped me to take a diary of all symptoms and also I asked my HV to observe a bottle feed to show how uncomfortable she was.

I'm sorry to have replied previously with such a short reply, I just wanted to make sure you knew that DoH don't recommend but of course you would have researched!

Its so very frustrating, I hope you get sorted x

Thanks Evasmum.. I know what you mean I also think my GP thinks I am been over baring and neurotic because of my angel too.. As for the reflux thing my GP will only prescribe me carobel.. which is daft really as LO won't drink her milk so what is the point of putting something in her milk? I didn't realise you had such a tough time with your LO and dont' be daft about your reply I didn't think it was short at all :O) Going to look into the hypoallergenic milks too but with the goat milk been really hard to get hold of I think I will feel better having some in the house! To be honest I just want her to be happy and drink her milk....... Poor mite as I mentioned to PINKYLISA in a PM she is 5 months old and still in 0-3 clothes, yes she is robust but tiny she just seems to have stopped growing... however HV said this is normal as babies weight tends to even out at this age.. But for me I know she should want more than 15-20oz of milk a day its an ongoing nightmare!

Thanks again for all your replies and support... Vintage good stORY i like it! x

If you suspect milk intolerance, and aren't getting anywhere with your doctor - go to A&E when LO is screaming or video it. You will have to be seen by a paediatrician, and it's the fastest way to get a correct diagnosis. My LO had cow's milk protein intolerance, and only outgrew it at 16 months old. I am in the process of weaning her off hypoallergenic formula, which she has been on since 5 months old. I regret not insisting sooner that she need hypo formula. She suffered needlessly as once I got her on Nutramigen AA her symptoms vanished, and she was suddenly happy. She also had silent reflux, which was caused by the CMPI - it's very common to get the two together. It's worth noting that goats milk has similar proteins to cow's milk, although it is easier to digest. You can buy hypo formula online, but the type that Holly is on costs £35 for a 450ml tin  I hope you can get someone to take you seriously soon :hugs:

Not sure what to think of the Goats Milk... TBH I have noticed a slight improvement in her feeding but she has been mostly the same inbetween her feeds.... Saying that tho she has been a lot more tolerant of being fed.. Before I couldn't feed her without swaddling her or sitting her in a bouncy chair.. and now she is drinking milk sitting on my lap which she hasn't done for ages..... Altho she is still flinging about, leg straightening and generally hysterical for some of her feeds she is not like this all of the time now.
She has been drinking a little bit more milk on a daily basis but the change to me doesn't seem overly outstanding for me to commit to giving her goats milk.

I have started weaning which she has taken fantastically too :O) Someone mentioned that she may just not be that into milk...

I don't know what to do next? We have nearly ran out of goats milk should I try another tin? Go back to the colic and constipation? Try a hypoallergenic one? I worry if I go back to the colic milk she will revert back to what she was like before. As I have mentioned I have noticed a slight improvement. She has been on the goats milk for a week, do I need to try it for a bit longer before I can make a decision? ???

xx

You really need to try it for around a month to see if it makes any difference, you won't be able to tell before that. I would insist on getting a referral tbh, try seeing another dr x x

I've no advice but :hugs: if you have noticed an improvement i'd probably carry on with it, that saying i don't have much knowledge of various milks/formulas, though i know how awful it is when your baby is distressed (my eldest had silent reflux which took a chance of GP practice, and 4 doctors altogether to diagnose (they didn't believe my concerns because he always gained weight well) x

Hellbunny this is the case with my LO.. Last time I had her at the docs he basically said as she had doubled her birthweight by 5 months she had reached the weight milestone that she needs too.. He wasn't concerned about anything else and just told me to get on with it!

We have reverted back to colic and comfort milk as the delivery on the nannycare has been put back a few days.. Gutted to be chopping and changing her.... But my DH ordered from a company and they have contacted him today to say that it is going to be later than expected....

She has been quite fussy today tbh but going to see how the rest of the week pans out...
