Hi,

Since my Lo was 6 months old i have cooked all his meals from scratch and freeze them. He has a variety in his diet (i follow the Anabel Karmel books) i had to buy a jar of food the other day when i was out and about, the Hipp organic range and he loved it. I have never seen him enjoy his food so much!!!. I am now seriously considering using the jars instead as they work out the same price anyway and he seems to enjoy them more.
Just wanted to know if anyone used the Hipp range? as I'm worried that there will be some hidden sugars and salts somewhere in the food. My Lo is 9mnths 2 weeks.
Thanks. x

I use them and lo loves them too. He only has jars occasionally as he usually has what we have. Not too sure about sugars and salts etc but I assume they must try and make them with as little as possible x

i use ella's kitchen but also hipp and heinz, not a major variety with ellas. dont get me wrong i have made from scratch a selection of dinners for nicole but she just doesnt like them, so its jars every day.

i have 25 chicken casserole, 20 beef stew, 18 pasta pouches all homemade in the freezer and she wont touch them!!!

The amount love and effort I put into making food for Daniel, is directly proportional to the chance he will refuse to eat it.
He tends to like Hipp Organic, Ellas Kitchen and Organix

I do a mixture of jars and homemade. He loves both to be honest.
He did go through a stage at about 8 months where he would only eat jars and refused homemade, but I kept offering and he started up again.
I like him to eat both as it makes life easier to be able to have the choice.
Jars are sweetened with natural fruit juice etc so LO's do tend to enjoy them more because of this'.
Also ALL jars are made with organic food (IN the UK anyway) as it was a law brought in a few years ago. So even though Hipp Organic says it on the jar, all the other foods have organic too.

really? i am surprised as you would think they would advertise the fact that they are all organic, after all its a good selling point. I'm sure i have heard that too so not doubting your knowledge but it does surprise me. x

I dont know why but i feel slightly embarrassed to be using mostly jars. If i make a cottage pie or something which he likes then i make extra and give it to him and freeze loads, but most of the stuff i make he hates! Eventually, all our babies will be eating the same things we eat though, so i dont know why i worry so much about it. He eats porride and fruit for breakfast. Jar, sandwich and fruit for lunch. Jar, bread and yogurt for dinner.

They do adverise that they are all organic! All the big brands do anyway.

We have used them a few times and he loves them :) Also Jayden recommends the Organix jars too, i think they're the same price?

I use the HIPP jars, I have tried so many time to get her to eat our food but she point blank refuses, she will scream and scream until I take it away.
She also won't eat any other brand, but I have to agree with her a little that they definately smell much better than the other brands. I feel really bad for feeding her jars everyday, but she really won't take anything else

We use Hipp or Organix when out as i find it easier and i dont have to worry about keeping the food cool, etc. I have just looked at the jars i have and the only added ingredient is water, so dont worry!

i'm so pleased to read these comments. I'm trying soooooooooo hard to do all homemade and he is pretty good at trying it all and eating it BUT when you've spent hours preparing stuff and he refuses i want to cry. Glad to hear this is norma!!!! Also now i won't feel so guilty (not sure why we all do) giving him jars and pouches. We like Ella pouches and HIPP organic steamed.

Maybe they do? i didnt think so but i suppose i havent look that hard as iv not used them but hipps always stands out to me.

SO glad to read this too. I too wanted to only give LO homemade, but I am worried our diet is not varied enough and found myself giving him the same things time and again. So now I give him food of ours that is healthy- roasts etc, but if we are having something like pasta that doesn't have a whole lot of veg or something I'll give him a jar/sachet. I want to try and vary it because my HV said babies who eat lots of jarred foods will find homemade foods blander because they aren't sweetened etc, but I was surprised to see how good all the ingredients are in the foods- I assumed they had E numbers etc with the way people talk about them. Also, my HV has said to be careful LO gets a variety of textures because I have found even stage 2 jars are much more refined than foods I've normally given even at stage 1 (not that we ever really did stages- LO had finger foods before I even gave him his first puree)- so I just make sure he gets a mixture with finger foods as well etc. As with everything there is a balance to be struck! But I wish I didn't feel guilty for giving him the baby food!!!

We do a mix of home made when at home and jars/pouches when out and about. We're out every day, so that means quite a lot of food on the go. I think he does prefer the shop bought stuff as he definately eats more of it than the things I make for him .

Alex really likes the HIPP jars, and I think they are one of the best baby food brands. BUT, have you tried the Plums range? I swear it tastes so good I could happily eat the stuff myself. Alex loves the Plums baby food and the beauty of it is that it comes in small plastic dishes that are really light for travelling about with.
