Hi guys

Looks like i will have to go through anotehr IVF/ICSI soon and am thinking of going private with CARE rather than using NHS private clinic. I was cool with the NHS procudures for egg collection and responded pretty well to thier protocol and drugs. I just worry about chaning clinic and not responding as well and also about how they do egg collection. At NHS i was sedated (i was actually totally out of it) i was given diazipam to keep my calm night before etc, i just wondered what the procedure is with CARE clinics, is egg collection under sedation or general do they give you chill out drugs etc? Last thing i want is an waful egg collection after being fine at NHS.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated..will be having consultation but am curious now :)

welcome to my turf :D im going with care for my treatment.. they pride themselves on there procedures for genetical problem couples. AS far as i no there IVF is the exact same as anywhere else. they put you under heavy sedations as far as im aware.

Oh thanks tracey, its such a hard decision to make really but i have not been overly impressed with NHS for free treatment, not bad but not great and when parting with £4k i want to make sure i am getting the best! Good luck hun and would be good if you can let me know anything interesting you find out with them? Have you been to see them? When do you start? xx

iv had a few chats with them over the phone but nothing in person yet but thats due to the nhs dragging there heels with funding. theres a website if you dont no where you can price everything up and explains everything.

Arh yeah thanks tracey, i have actually done a bit of research. I looked at prices and emailed them too and they said just to ring when i know the outcome of my FET which is not looking good so hence the questions. I will have to travel for 35 mins each time to clinic rather than for the 10 mins to my current clinic but hey if the treatment is better which i am sure it can only be its all worth it eh? I have posted the question on the care bulliten board just now to see if anyone can aswer the question too :) x

Will let you know if i find anything out that may be of interest to you :)

I'm a CARE lady too, due to start on thurs! I'll update you chocci as i go through it, and Traci, might see you there ;) good luck ladies x x x

I forgot to put....

My experience with CARE so far has been a positive one, i've been there a few times already for initial appointment and for scan and have found the staff so lovely and empathic, and the docs talk to you in simple terms, but not in a patronising way. The building is very nice, very calming and clean, welcoming most definitely. They took us on a tour around the building and showed us the ward, the waiting rooms, and the room where they do all the magic (behind a glass screen though, we didn't actually go into that bit), They allowed us to hold all the instruments and explained the whole procedure, which was good to dispel that fear of the unknown.

I've found the reception staff very welcoming too, and every time i've emailed or phoned they've been quick to help out / respond, and have certainly put my mind at ease.

they do sedate you for egg retrieval, and you can also request a sedation for when they put the embo back in (although as an NHS patient i'd have to pay for the second bit).

Having heard some awful experiences, i know i'm very lucky to have CARE as our centre.

So, as of thurs, i'll be able to update you on the procedural side! I hope the info helps you make your decision hun x x x

Care offer egg donation which means cheaper IVF would you consider that to cut the costs?
xx

Hmmmmmmmmm I think i would but I have a parent with a medical condition that i think would rule me out, besides I also only got 10 eggs, with only 5 fertilising so not sure i would qualify to be a donor as I wouldnt have neough eggs i dont reakon???? x

I got some info on egg donation etc, and there are rules etc to how many eggs and stuff they share it has to be over a certain amount (cant remember) but i know being the egg donor you get the best deal!!
If its under a certain amount off eggs produced they dont share (cant remember the number and you keep them)

It might be worth a look into with them, cuts your costs loads!! I mean you dont need to pay for certain tests etc either if your egg sharing.. (I do note tho they tests for certain things before accepting you as a donor tho like medical conditions) but like i said might be worth asking them saves you alot of money!!
xx

Yeah thanks beauty i think i would defo think about it. Trouble is its that thing about having some youngster turn up at your door at 18 years old saing high mum, thanks for giving me away!!! Know what i mean. I was actually all for egg donation but my hubby pointed that out. i know he would support me whatever i decided though and would leave that decision for what i felt comfortable with.

Hmmmmmmmmm, now heres a thought that would sway my decision. We have great embie quality of the ones that fertilised they were very impressed at the clinic, they remaining were good enough to be frozen, however, on thawing they didnt fair that well and we were told it is a possibility that we are one of the 10% of unlucky couples whose embies dont like the freeze thaw process and it would probably happen next time. NOW if that is the case there is no point me wasting my embies cos thats basically what i would be doing putting them through the thaw. Maybe then i should consider giving someone else the chance to use one of my eggs rather than it go to waste?

God what a hard decision!!! I think i will contact them and ask if they can send all the information out?

xx

I defo think reading the info might be worth it huni..
You dont need to rash decision but maybe worth a read through so you understand what happens in egg donation etc in just for a read if you dont want to do it!

I wouldnt worry about someone knocking on my door at 18.. lol i suppose its not like your giving up a baby for adoption your helping the other lady have a baby and actually carry the baby the whole 9 months and actually give birth to a baby (some people dont even get that option in life) and to me i feel like its more the other ladys baby then your own even tho it might be your egg!! (if you know wot i mean)

I suppose it be nice to know your helping other, i would do it huni thats why i looked at it, i am not no where near the IVF route but i wouldnt wanna wait NHS for IVF if i ever need to and couldnt afford private and even if i could i think i would like to help others in a need too!!

xx
