Hi everyone-

I had a natural miscarriage January 25th. Since then I've had two periods (February 25th and March 17th). The second came 1 week earlier than I expected. I was expectig my third period since the miscarriage this past Friday. I experienced the normal cramping but no period. I took a test this morning and it was positive. I called the doc to let him know and he wants to see me next week but in the mean time wants me to start progesterone. I have a 6 year old daughter and didn't experience any issues with her. The last pregnancy was categorized as a threatened miscarriage from the first appointment I had. He never mentioned me having an issue with my progesterone levels while I was pregnant.

I'm unsure how to feel as I am thanful to be pregnant again but am nervous and anxious how this one will turn out.

Anyone with experience with progesterone?

Yes, me. I have 8 children and the last 3 I was on progesterone until I was 12 weeks. I don't know your age but for me I never had any miscarriages or issues until I was in my 30's, it seems as we get older our progesterone levels can decrease and sometimes this is the cause of miscarriages. I was not diagnosed with low progesterone but I take it rather as a precautionary method. It does not harm the baby and once the placenta takes over completely at around 12 weeks the baby makes its own hormones. Oh and by the way Congratulations :flower:

Taking progesterone is a good idea. In many countries around the world (the UK not being one of them, unfortunately) they give it in early pregnancy if you've had previous miscarriages, a threatened miscarriage or if there's another reason for potential concern.
Best of luck with your BFP!

I forgot to add that progesterone is the hormone responsible for supporting the pregnancy for the first 12 weeks or so, until the placenta properly kicks in. That's why it's important to take it if the doctor advises it.
xx

Thanks, ladies :hugs:

I am 31....maybe it is a part of getting older. I have my presciption and I'll start this evening.

I'm taking suppositories, since I ovulated in February, only 3.5 weeks to go! The supp. are awfully messy YUCK! But I had a loss in Oct and another in early Feb so it made sense to start prog. as my luteal phases were always on the short side-progesterone also helps keep your uterus lining from breaking down too soon allowing an egg to properly implant. As someone else stated, it won't hurt anything, and I'm 8.5 weeks pg now and doing great! Congratulations!

Did you all have any spotting when you started the progesterone? So of course worry has kicked in. I've went to the bathroom a couple of times today and there was a light brown mucousy discharge on the tissue. I know this could be related to implantation or possibly the medicine but now I'm slightly concerned.

I have had a TEENY bit of spotting 3 times and that's all I can chalk it up to. Makes sense for me if the suppository irritates my cervix...

Thanks, ready4family. I guess it was due to the pills but mine were prescribed orally. Fingers are crossed and praying everything goes well this time. :)

Hi, I was prescribed suppositories after 3 recurrent mcs. Had spotting all the way through. Some people have said that its due to the hormones but my consultant said it was coincidental and would've spotted anyway. I was prescribed them as a precaution really and to relax my uterus. I am now 22 weeks aged 32 and i dont know whether the success is down to nature or the aspirin and hormones but am just happy either way.
