They have me on dostinex for my high levels. Too much prolactin stops you from ovulating from what I understand. Anyone else have high prolactin?

Hi MommyMichele,

I have high prolactin but am waiting for my appt with the endocrinologist in 4 weeks to hopefully be given the meds, apparently the gynae clinic cant give me the meds!! How long have you been on dostinex? What were your prolactin levels? Mine was 915 in April and 1140 in June, no-one has bothered to check since!! Just praying the meds work!!

I got my meds from my OBGYN, they do everything in that office considering we live in a lower populated area. There is no RE around here for 5 hours in any direction but our clinic is very good. I can't think of my levels off hand, can't find the slip they gave me, but as soon I can find it, I'll let you know. I don't think they were that high though. I've only been on the meds for about a week now and so far no side effects.

It has a good success rate from what I understand and I guess it's super easy for women to get pregnant while on it. It's pg safe. I'm hoping this is all I need and/or maybe one course of Femara after that.

Its soooo frustrating knowing 1 hormone can cause this much pain and upset! How did you find out about your prolactin level? I came off contraceptive pill 20 months ago and only had 2 periods in that time. I had loads of bloods taken and an mri scan. I was told I have a tiny benign tumour on my pituitary gland which is so small it cant be seen on the mri, so how they know its the pituitary gland puzzles me!! There doesnt seem to be many people with this prolactin problem so I feel on my own slightly!

Actually high prolactin levels are pretty common most of them are just not diagnosed.

The only way we found out is by finally throwing the towel in and admitting that I needed help getting pregnant. We've been trying for over 2 years. For a long time I refused to think there was something off with me since I already have children just not any with my husband of nearly 4 years. I even cornered him one day and grilled him about whether he had a vasectomy before we had met and he wasn't telling me the truth. LOL I even looked!

I went in for my yearly exam and told the Dr what was going on and he ran a bunch of tests on me. 6 vials of blood (still waiting on 3 of the results) and an ultrasound. I do have PCOS but not as bad as some of his other patients he says. So far only one of the tests came back not what they should be and that was the prolactin.

Prolactin stems from the pituitary gland and too much of it stalls ovulation. I was gearing up for O the day I had my scan and holy crap did that hurt! I just never released any eggs. Frustrating as hell! It's like getting ready for a massive party and the guest of honor refuses to go cause she is having a bad day so she sends her evil friend a few weeks later as revenge. (I have an odd way of thinking)

High prolactin levels are easy to fix from what I understand through meds. If yours is super tiny like they are saying you more than likely won't have to go the other route. I talk to another lady on another forum and she had to have surgery to remove the tumor off the gland. She's still not pregnant but she has some other fertility issues now.

Just take the meds they give ya hun and I'll be here to talk to you if you need to. You can ask me anything!
