As some of you might know tests showed the reason for my 2 mc's was that my thyroid is underactive so i will need to go on medication before i conceive. Apart from doing some digging on my own- i was wondering if anyone on here has this?

I also have no patience and although its good news ive gotten some answers and that its treatable..im so desperate to ttc again i just wanna hear i dont have to be on the medication for like months..i know...get some patience and suck it up, lol!! :)

, Omi xxx

I knew it! Its just Me, Myself and My freaky thyroid..oh, well it was worth a shot :)

Omi i think Capitalchick had the same problem...but she got herself under meds and now she is ready to be in labor !!!

she had ttc for a long time as well ...

maybe if you go on her profile and go back to her post really early ones on ...you could read about it....
when i had time i may look into them myself for you....for now looks like i have a stomach bugs for the week end:(

Thanks, Miel.. i had a read. I guess what im looking for is how long someone needed to be on medication before they could ttc. Having said that, reading her stuff made me feel a lot better as her readings was sky high, over 100 and mine's only 5 so that gives me hope! :)

Glad you some answers hun though not as many as you would have liked, would you maybe be worthwhile posting it in the pregnancy section in case someone has had this and gone on to have kids after the treatment?

so it was the same problem then...i remember her being devastated when she learn about it and took i think 2 or 3 months off bnb and did her treatment and she reappear with a BFP !!!

Omi, my mum has this and had me and my brother with no probs after getting medication to control it :hugs:

Hey hun,

I had my thyroid removed in Dec 2006 which technically makes me underactive until they sorted my levels. To be honest it doesn't take long for the tablets to kick in, a couple of days. Good thing is this can be sorted with a wee pill and you'll be good to go shortly!

Me! I'm hypothyroid too. :hugs:

I've been doing a lot of reading since my recent mc and the current thinking seems to be that they no longer believe hypo to be the cause of mc. Only if you have 'anti-thyroid antibodies'...but that's a completely different problem, to do with the immune system, not the hormones themselves. I've read that low thyroid just causes problems such as low-IQ in the baby. I wish I could blame my mc's on my thyroid, but even my specialists said they're not to blame.

Having said that, it still seems to be agreed that hypothyroidism can create difficulties ttc. After being medicated, I fell preg quite quickly so I'm praying that that was NOT just a coincidence.

Have you been referred to a specialist? I got referred when I was preg and kept the appt even though I'd lost the baby. The consultant was glad I came because my tupid gp was not medicating me correctly, and I also 'need to be kept an eye on' as we're ttc. He also told me to immediately up my dose if I do fall preg again, and to go and see him asap.

Anyway...............I'm still reading up on the whole thing. Have yet to discover the thyroid section in the Lesley Reagen book...and apparently she's the oracle, so I'll let you know what I find out!!!!!!

Good luck

This is something I always suspected but my doctor refuses to check. This thread reminded me though and I'll insist she does the tests before my next IVF so that they don't waste time and money on his lack of clives only! Omi I am so glad you're getting somewhere answers wise, flicka! Puss och mycket kram!

coooeee! :) I've got hypotyroidism to! I was diagnosed when my level was 37.5 lol not fun. Its great your gp is treating you though some people wont get treated if they have a tsh level of under 10 when alot of fertility specialist reccomend that you have a level of 0.5-1 to get and stay pregnant. It took me 4 months to get my levels stable but my levels were high, I'd say a month for you probably :) you'll feel so much better on the medication. And make sure you get regular blood tests to see if you need to increase your dose.

Good news is once your levels are stable its fine :) just need to be monitered a bit more during pregnancy. Few tips take your tablet in the morning an hour before you eat, and dont have dairy products for 4 hours after the tablet. Also dont take vitamins with your tablet, leave it a couple of hours. xxx

I am glad I found your thread! I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism last year. I've been TTC for 6 months or so. My doctor increased my meds once and last month told me I was borderline with a TSH of 4. I got blood drawn Friday and should have the results Monday or Tuesday. She mentioned it should be lower since I'm TTC, like you said a 1 or 2. Now I am reading research that she is right and a 4 is too high. I don't know why I feel so frustrated, she'll up my dose if needed. I guess I am disappointed that I thought I was regulated and i'm not. I'm also expecting AF on Tuesday and was really hoping this month she wouldn't show up!

I'm Hypothyroid too :hugs:

Doctor put me on Thyroxine 25. I'm afraid other than the side effects I don't know much about the condition, I too would be interested to know how long it takes to start working!

Saying that I have a feeling it's the PCOS that causes my thyroid problems and problems TTC!

I know exactly what you mean about not being patient! I just want my doctor to say I can start TTC straight away! All I keep getting told is to wait for treatment of my mountainous list of pre-existing problems! I'm so fresh out of patience at this stage.

:hugs:
