I've got a stupid question!

My husband is away at the moment for another 4 months, all our bills come out of his account. Anyway, I've just received a cheque we've been waiting ages for, it's in my name only but I need the money in hubby's account ASAP. My question is, can I pay the cheque into my husbands account?

Hope someone can help xx

No you can't.

It has to be paid into the account with the name on. We received a cheque in our joint names, the bank wouldn't let us pay it into DH's account (we don't have a joint bank account). We had to get the cheque reissued in DH's sole name.

You could pay it in then transfer it on the phone/online to your OHs account xx

The only way is if you are named on the account as well.

If you needed the money ASAP you could pay to specially clear it in your account then transfer the money over but that can cost around £15 for the sake of a few days.

The only way to really do it which will take about a week depending on how long things take to clear with your bank is to pay it into your account then do a transfer once the funds have cleared if you have online banking or telephone banking. Or you write a cheque to your husband but that will take the longest time out of the other options.

as others said it has to be paid into an account with the same name on which will then take 3-5 days to clear. or you will have to use a cheque cashing service (although they will charge for this) then you can have the cash and pay this into your hubbys account.

this is the quickest route but as i say will cost some money normally a % of the cheque. when i say cheque cashing service i mean the 'buy gold' shops or payday loan ppl on the high street they take the cheque for cash!

almost all banks do faster payments these days which shouldnt cost much (if anything) and normally get to the account same day (or next day!)

if you have a non-branch account (eg online saver) pop the cheque to your branch with the online sort code and account number. if your lucky they will credit the account with the funds cleared as cash and just wait for the cheque to go through the system as usual.

happened to me a few times and i used to work in a bank ;-)
