anyonw who's had a mmc can i have some advice?

I was just wondering if its normal to still be getting very strong positives after being diagnosed with mmc? surely if the baby has died, then hcg levels should be dropping.

i know its probably normal, just trying to convince myself there might be a shred of hope. stupid, i know.

Hi Nic, I'm terribly sorry you are going through this.

I am no expert but I can only tell you what happened to me. I had a mmc discovered at my 13 week scan - the pregnancy had stopped developing at 5 weeks. I had done lots of tests in the period inbetween though (as I was convinced that something was wrong) and I was still testing positive. I have just got a BFP 21 months later and I will not be testing again this time - I will just wait until my scan (luckily I will have one at 7 weeks).

hi hunny, sorry you are going through this

pg tests pick up hcg over 20miu which is really low, so even if your levels are dropping, you may still get positive tests (awful I know) which can be very confusing and upsetting

I think your hcg levels start dropping quite quickly after the pregnancy is removed, some ladies on here get positives for up to 2 weeks after. But any more than than and I would probably want to get checked out as they may have left some of the pregnancy behind

With a mmc, your body is still producing the hormones as it still thinks it's pregnant. It's only when it realises and miscarries naturally or the pregnancy is removed that the hcg will start to fall

Oh Nicb26 I am so sorry that you are going through this. I had a MMC in February and it is the worst thing I have ever gone through. Like the other posters said your body will continue to produce hcg until the pregnancy has been removed. I was getting postivies for about 10 days after my mmc was medically managed. So sorry to hear about your mmc xx I had one in June this yr when I went for dating scan at 11wks it showed baby died at 8wks
I had positive pg tests for 4wks following my d&c. A blood test of hcg levels at this time showed level of 23!
I did get my period exactly 4wks after d&c despite these levels it's just distressing seeing lines when u know ur not pregnant
Hang in there, it will get better it's horrible at first x I was very lucky and fell pregnant the third cycle following mmc x

I had one and baby died 7 weeks had medical management at 8.5 weeks and nothing happened went for d7c round week 10 and was still getting positive tests up to 7 weeks later with brown spotting, EPU kept telling me it was normal! Didnt get a period until 9 weeks later! Wouldnt worry iunless you have pain or smelly discharge is what i was told!

I'm sorry to hear about your MMC. It's a horrible trick your body plays on you. I've read ladies on here still got positives up to 6 weeks after?! I got a negative just after the bleeding stopped after the medical management they gave me at the hospital.

Hey hon.. I got strong positives for about 2/3 weeks after my mc AND i had a d&c as well.. sometimes the hcg levels take a long time to get out your system. I was doing pg tests even though I knew I wasn't pg anymore, it was agony to see a positive result, I wanted to be negative so i could start trying again...

When I had my m/c it took over a month for me to stop getting positive tests
