Hi Ladies,
My first post in here. We are a couple of weeks away from the one year mark. I am 24, very active and healthy but since coming off the pill after 8 years, my cycles are long and irregular.

How do you cope with the one year hurdle?

My doctor did bloods which all came back normal, doesn't think I have PCOS as hormones are fine and I am 8 stone and 5'5.
Said to go back in August but my cycle lengths dropped from 118 days, 96 days to 54 days so I assumed they were shortening.

If I go back, what do you think will happen? I am so terrified of it all being made official  xxxx

Welcome toni, i had really irregular cycles after coming off bcp, it took just over a year to regulate. For me it was compounded by the fact i have pcos but my GP ( whose wonderful) did tell me it can take 18 months for your cycles to come back properly! If they don't they will probably refer you for an internal scan (not as scary as it sounds) and more bloods!
Out of interest which pill were you on?

How did i cope with the one year, it wasn't too bad, i'd convinced myself it would take between a year and 18 months! Two years is going to hit me more i think :(

Thanks for the reply :hugs:
I have been on a number of pills but the last two were Microgynon for 2 years then I went onto cilest for 1 year due to mid cycle bleeding. My friend came off at the same time as me and is 35 weeks pregnant! Guess it is luck of the draw?xx

It's potentially the luck of the draw or maybe it is just different people's bodies react differently!

Hopefully, your cycles will regulate soon. :hugs:

Hi Tonibzac

I'm in the same situation as you now. I'm approaching one year since coming off BC in November2010.

I'm waiting for my blood test results but i'm having internal scans done in the next couple of weeks too so they may do that next to you. I hope they come back ok. my periods haven't been the same since coming off cerazette. Now my period is every 22-26 days. Did your oh have tests yet?

I think we deserve to treat ourselves and oh when we officially hit the 12 month mark for coping with the trials and stresses of ttc.

GL hun

How do you handle the 1 year mark?
With whatever coping mechanism that you enjoy, lol. Go shopping, drink, take a hot bath, go out to dinner, etc.

I didn't do well with self imposed time lines. I had certain family functions or events that I wanted to be pregnant by, those were hard for me.

I think that having the diagnosis of 'infertility' helped me to validate my feelings. I was so upset and not coping well, but hey, it's because of infertility, not just ttc. I think that there is a difference.

And, this might not sound encouraging, but I mean it that way, after a certain point, the exact # month doesn't really matter anymore. I am a little confused if I'm on cycle #17 or 18. But, it doesn't matter. It still hurts, but I've learned not to set time lines as to when I will be pregnant. My body does things on it's own time line.

:hugs:

My 1 year mark was my birthday... I think it was a mistake to start TTC on my birthday, lol... but at least it will always be easy to keep track of.

I think it's just important to not lose sight of the larger goal, and remember that you have the same % chance EVERY cycle (well if you're having normal cycles, and it sounds like you're getting there!), so month #13 isn't really so different than cycle #11, you know? Like readyformore said, don't impose timelines on yourself, and if you can let go of being so focused on "I've been TTC for X cycles, X months, or X days, it doesn't help you just focus on each cycle individually. I've never had regular cycles either, now on clomid, but just taking it one day and one cycle at a time has really helped!

Thankyou so much ladies, that really does help. I don't even know what CD I'm on at the moment so tracking days and cycles is already losing its ... Usefulness?
You are so right, I guess infertility makes it a bit easier to cope with all the feelings we go through with TTC. Guess I have to go to the doctor  xx

I think I mostly tried to ignore hitting the one year mark. It's really helped *me* finding out that I have pcos and that's what has my cycles all out of whack. I've been working really hard to get my hormones back to normal and lose weight. I think 2 years might hit me a bit harder though.
