Hello Ladies,

I started my 4 week daughter on Aptamil cartons and we didn't have any problems with her feeding. 4 weeks on and we have weaned her of the cartons and have started using the powder. However, the feeding is taking forever, she is straining like she wants to poo, squirming and then falling asleep - I also burp her but then she is out for the count... usually she has only taken about an ounce at this stage (she is on 3 ounces). She then wakes up hungry after half hour and it starts all over again. Wish we could stick to cartons but they are too expensive...any ideas? Is it the milk or should we use Teat number 2? I have heard great things about Hipp Organic but don't just want to change her milk..

Thanks!

We went to the next size when LO was 12 days old as the newborn teat (NUK bottles) was too slow and the same thing was happening -- why not get a set of two teats (I think most next size comes in sets of 2) just to try? That way, instead of replacing everything, you can 'test' and LO will be happier......

best wishes

We gave LO the powdered milk at about a week and we found she would fall asleep too but I would stop after every oz and stand up for a while or maybe change her bum. This settled and she takes the whole thing with no problems generally. She is 4weeks old now and I changed her over to the 1month teats. She would drink half the bottle (shes on 4oz) and then start to fuss and choke and spit out the milk. I spoke to my Mum who recommended getting a hot needle and making the hole in the newborn teat slightly larger. The 2 holes seem too big and when she gets sleepy she runs out of air. Have only done this today but the one bottle she has had seemed to go down nicely. x

I would say try a bigger teat size. I use Dr Browns and had to use stage 2 teats from 6 weeks with my son (he should have gone up at 3 months). The newborn teats are just too tiny for some babies X

We use aptamil and although the same milk i think there is a difference in consistency between cartons and powder. Ava was put on vari flow teats at 5 days, trying a bigger size teat wouldn't hurt if you want to try and avoid changing milk

I agree with PPs, try the next teat size. I switched Jack to level 2 teats when he was about 4 weeks old.
