My LO has gotten increasingly worse about getting upset at the doctor's office over the last 6 months. This time he started to get upset at the sight of the building! He cries more there than he ever does for anything else. Is that normal?? I mean I guess I'm not surprised since he gets poked and stabbed for vaccines, but it seems excessive. I'm just wondering how other kids react?

Other question… when might it get better?

My DD1 cried a lot at the doctor's office as well but once she turned 2 years old, she seemed fine being there and even greeted and thanked the doctor & nurse after getting a vaccine . Hopefully it's just a phase for him. :flower:

Mine has always been a crier there. This time at 18 months he screamed the whole time. No shots either!
I apologized but the doctor said that its a hard age and a lot of kids are like that because they start to remember all the shots they get there and you can't reason with them too mcg yet. I took him out for a breakfast treat after. From now on he will be treated afterwards to something special like ice cream or something.

When she was younger my LO wasn't too bothered by the doctor, she didn't really understand. As she got older, she LOVED the doctor. She loves to go except when she gets shots.

My older two totally were....screaming crying. My littlest LOVES the doctor. Wtf?

My LO is terrified of the doctor. She is okay in the waiting room but as soon as we go into the doctor's office she starts screaming and pointing at the door. She has had a few eye and ear infections in the last year and it's been very difficult at the doctors as she has to be practically pinned down to have her ears or eyes checked. It's so hard for them when they just don't understand what the doctor is doing and why :(

My LO is scared of drs, nurses, HVs the whole lot. He cries when we go into the drs room, cries when they examine him, cries if they weigh or measure him. He's getting a bit better now and usually calms down after I've told him the drs finished.

I think mine are odd one's out but nope. Poppy asks to go to the doctors :/ she loves it. No idea why.

Mine loves it too! He always asks about it when we go past (which is pretty much every journey due to its location) and I have to say no sorry we can't go to the doctors today!!! Ha ha

My son wasn't keen until he got a doctors kit for Xmas! They are only about £8! We had to take him to the doctor this Sunday and he was fine - much better as he had the same kit (looking into his ears and throat) and was telling the dr what to so! Would that help? X

Mine is completely fine around doctors but he sees one almost every week so he's completely used to being prodded and poked. It was only last night that we had to take him to A&E!

Both of mine have always been fine with the doctor, only crying just after shots. Even that gets better as they get older though, because then you can explain it only hurts for a second, and then mommy will hug you right away to help it feel better. Around age 2 my son really started liking Doc Mcstuffins too, so he always sings the time for your check up song when going to the doctor, and he plays doctor at home. Maybe a toy doctor kit will help some? My youngest even loves the doctor kit, and thinks it hilarious to check my heartbeat and give me "shots".

DS1 sometimes totally freaks out and other times is perfectly fine! Usually he's ok in the waiting room. I'm not sure if the sight of certain nurses trigger bad memories of needles or something? He also freaked the time I had to take him with me to a prenatal appt at the hospital, even before we went into the dr office.

My LO is very wary of it, as long as she's not on the "bed" being examined she's okay. I had my 1st tri checkup there (family doctor) and as soon as I got onto the bed her bottom lip came out and she started sobbing. It was so cute but so sad!

Both of mine have always been fine with the doctors. No idea why really. I've always taken them with me if I've had to go so I don't know if that's helped. Neither of them were bothered about having injections either-odd children lol.
Esther's had quite a lot of visits and things fine to her do I think she's just used to it.

The only thing she doesn't like is having to sit still!!

DD is getting better but she used to freak out ALL the time if a doctor or nurse came anywhere near her. But to be fair she had so much stuff done to her in the first year who can really blame her. A new doctor used to mean a new blood test, operation or tube in her nose so its no wonder really.

DS doesnt mind at all, he is happy to be inthe doctors or the hospital but he has been there so much since he was a young age with his sister it doenst phase him at all

Summer HATES the doctors and cries whenever you even suggest going.

Maci loves it and thinks of it as an adventure!

My toddler cried every time we took him to the doctors until he turned 2. Now, he doesn't seem to mind being there and didn't even cry when he had his Hep A shot this week! I don't know if he just grew out of that phase or if maybe seeing me in medical settings for the last 9 months while I was pregnant with his brother helped him to not be afraid. I really have no idea but I am so glad he is no longer afraid!

Mine arnt. But it depends on your child ,they are all so different. Mine like the dentist too for some reason. Give it a few years that will change.

I hope you are all right that it will change in the next year or two! He did get quite a few blood tests his first year, but that was at another building with different nurses. He doesn't even give the doctor a chance to be friendly, but he seems nice to me so I hope LO starts to like him okay!

I will look into getting him a doctor kit if they have one without tiny parts. He's not very cooperative at home with anything (teeth, hair etc) so I'm not surprised he hates the doctor's office.
