Just wondering how common it is for abnormalities or problems to arise at 20 week scan? Is it generally ok or are you most likely told there is something? Trying not to worry about Wednesday but its hard. I'm getting bigger by day and feel baby loads so praying we get clean bill of health xx

There really is no way of knowing if something will be wrong or not. Abnormalities are picked up, some more serious than others. Until your scan, you can't tell. Obviously they don't find problems with every baby, but they do find problems with some babies. There's no point worrying about it until your there and they tell you. There's nothing you can do to change the outcome. However low the chances are, you can always be that 1 out of x amount of women, the same as the 12 week nt/downs testing. There's no point worrying about problems until you know there is one. x

Chances are if your 12 weeks was all good then the 20 week will be too Hun. Especially if you're feeling lots of movement too :) Means baby must be a good size.

I was soooo scared for my 20 week scan. It really got me down.

But everything was great and it was actually my favourite scan. I wish I hadn't worried so much beforehand but I think that all comes with being a mummy!

Enjoy your scan. I'm sure it'll be wonderful. :) xxx

I would say since more babies are born healthy with no abnormalities than not that there is less risk that something will be wrong ... I have had 4 anatomy scans between my 2 boys and they found my first sons umbilical cord only had one artery BUT when I went back for my second scan there was nothing actually wrong with the baby so I don't really consider that anything wrong just an inconvenient worry :p I'm sure everything will be fine !

I'm the world's biggest worrier and it's really hard to not think the worst when you go for these scans, but I just wanted to say that although problems with the baby and very unlikely, you must be prepared for the sonographer to find VERY COMMON problems in the scans and they may send you back for another one. This does NOT mean that your baby necessarily has any problems but they are soooo careful to triple check any slight abnormal measurement or something else- please don't let it worry you too much though as I know so many people that had to go back for one reason or another and their baby's were fine! They said my child had a smaller than normal head measurement and I worried myself sick, but it turned out that she just had a petite head and she is a totally normal 18 month old now. I'm just trying to prepare you for this as I presumed we would go away from our first 20 week scan all happy and cheery and we left feeling like the only ones going through it- when later on, we found out lots of friends had to go back for re-scans too and all was fine.

You'll be fine though, and try to enjoy it, as it goes quickly.

xx
