So I want to get a plain wooden doll's house and start painting and decorating it and whatnot for the babaloot, so that she can always have it and look after it when she's older and things like that.
But I can't find any plain wooden ones that aren't really expensive!
Does anybody know of some niche place that I haven't thought of yet that does them fairly cheaply?
I've looked on eBay, but most of them are pickup only and miles away, or have HUGE delivery charges :/

all dolls houses seem to be expensive coz they cost so much to make.
My aunty makes them and she spends a fortune on them :/

sorry I'm no help haha just didnt wanna read and run

xx

Have you tried checking an antique shop? Or thought about making one? They're really easy to make. I made a small one when I was little (with parents help of course) and then it'd be really personal, because you made it. :)

Edit: It shouldn't cost that much to make if she's just using plain wood, right? I don't ever remember mine costing a lot.

Ooh, I would love to make one! I definitely want to paint it and stuff anyway, maybe I'll have a go at putting my carpentry skills to the test!
Saying that, I am very accident prone, and MAY end up severing most, if not all, of my limbs. Antiques shops also sound a good idea!

If you look online, there are a lot of instructions about how to make them and the easiest way to make them. Also, if you do build one yourself, see if the guy at the shop you get your wood will pre-cut it for you (Like if you need 3 4x4 pieces and 6 3x6 pieces, instead of getting one big piece and cutting it at home, sometimes they'll cut it for you in the shop)

Ah, that's a much better idea  I was trying to figure out the logistics of cutting bits of wood up at home! I was imagining cutting down a tree and then having to get a saw and one of those big table things and cutting it all up, and the idea panicked me somewhat. That sounds much more straightforward :)

 No tree cutting needed! Just find out where the local shop is that sells wood. Sometimes they sell it at hardware stores, other times you'll have to go to something like a lumber yard.

or you could look for dolls house kits?
if you're in the UK.. i used to do it with my mum when i was younger and i've still got my dolls houses..
and as i'm having a little girl i'm doing one for her room :)
if you get a flat pack one, they're usually quite easy to put together, and they're also easy to paint..
search on google and stuff, you could probably pick a decent one up for around £50..
(btw.. don't look at how they've been painted or anything - when you do them, they can turn out really different.. oh and try and get 1:12 scale (haha cause the smaller scales are alot harder to decorate and buy for)
i also found the shop was the best one we got :)

haha i sound so sad :)
xxxx

Hehe, you don't sound sad, it's nice that you're into it :) And very useful!

Hmm the only place that springs to mind is Hobbycraft? Might be miles off though.
I remember my grandad built me one when I was younger, used to absolutely love it xx

I love dolls houses and built a big one for my girls when they were small from a flat pack :)

There are plenty of flat packs available online, or look in the yellow pages under model shops :)

Also try charity and junk shops and check the small ads in your local free paper :)

i've had one since i was about 4 and adore it! as tempting as it is i'd say dont get all the cute little antique furniture because LOs have clumsy little hands, buy the blocky stuff that will last longer. i think it's a great idea, really good for the imagination

We got one 2 weeks ago from hobby craft.

Edit: It was built from scratch ourselves. I wanted to buy something that would be totally made by me!

just checked ebay and there's one from the seller 'restandplay' thats over in 30 min and the current bid is less than £30

I had one made for i LOVE it, everyone else had the flastic fisher price things and i felt so cool cause mine was a one of a kind type of thing and it was especially for me
how sad
Anyways you could try and find out if they have any doll house fairs near u, i remember i went to one where they sold all the kits and dolls and furtinture ect.

oh dear now  im on ebay looking at all the furniture, i want a dolls house piano!

I started looking at stuff on ebay it was a bad idea!

But if you have a home bargains near you they have one for £20 I think, and last time I was in toys r us they had one for £40, asda also had one but I think it was a while ago now. Argos sell 2 pink ones, but they could be sanded down and painted!
