Hi everyone,

Posting this because I don't know where else to ask other ladies! I recently got hit by a company wide lay-off, but I was about ready to leave this job anyway...:dohh:

Since we are wanting to TTC in August, it is important that I have some source of income to atleast be able to cover my small bills! But I'm kind of intimidated by the thought of entering a new job, knowing I will be pregnant soon, and having a baby. And we want me to stay at home with a new baby, regardless, hubby has a good job. So I would be leaving that job for several months after a baby is born.

I live in a small desolate town with very little job opportunities, so I have recently started to wonder, are there any REAL legit work at home jobs?

What do yall think? Is it possible to find a legit one? Any way to know which are legit, which is not? Anyone here work at home?

I'd love info! Thank you.

Hi there. I wanted to respond to your question. Yes, there are legitimate jobs online. The thing is, there are a lot of scams as well. So here is what I have found:

1. Any ads that ask you for a fee to help you find a job is a scam
2. Anything that says "get rich quick" or claims that you will make untolds amounts of money in a very short period of time is a scam

Here are some legitimate online jobs:

1. Medical transcriptionist - if you have typing skills but no experience, there are courses online that you can register for and they are inexpensive

2. Legal transcriptionist (same idea) (that's what I do and I have my own company and work from home)

3. Virtual assistant

4. Affiliate marketing (that's what I do)

Hope that helps.

Warm regards,

Shalisha

Hi hun,

I just wanted to let u know that I've also been looking for an at home job that I can do since losing my job in November and becoming pregnant in January. It is nearly impossible for pregnant ladies to find work (as there is all kinds of discrimination happening, and the gov't won't do a damn thing)...but anyways...they are out there, but u really have to look for them. I found one here in Ontario working as an appointment setter (telemarketer) for a local grocery company. I'm happy with it, as it's relatively easy to do - talk to people about grocery shopping, and I can do it once Peanut arrives. This has been my saving grace, as I cannot qualify for maternity leave now, and otherwise, I'd be going back to work and leaving a newborn in someone else's care (if anyone would even take a newborn), as my OH doesn't make enough for me to just stay home.

Good luck with ur search, and Shalisha has some great ideas.

How or where do you begin for medical transcription/legal transcription? I'd be very interested in either one of those more than anything!

I hadn't even thought of the maternity leave thing.. I know most companies have strict guidelines on that. So even if I do get a local job, its won't last. I know most employers would rather have a non-pregnant woman working, so while its illegal to discriminate I've heard they find other ways, once you start missing work, which is inevitible during pregnancy...

Firstly, I just have to give you a little background on my situation....

I work(ed) in the dental profession for many years and decided to move to less stressful office. I started my job on Aug 1st 2005 and Got my positive preg test 2 months later. I was very upfront with my boss and he was super understanding. I took off 2 months maternity leave and attempted to return to work until my son was 6 months old. I had some very bad experiences with babysitters so ended up quitting my job.

I have no option, I have to have some income. My mom is an accountant so she gave me some of her "personal" work to take over my income loss. In the past 3 years I have obtained 3 more companies, which in turn means more money. I also babysit my neice. Typically I have 1 day off every week and those days I clean houses.

It has taken me a few years to build up to where I am at but it is so worth it. I do my bookkeeping in the evening/weekends (4 hours a week), babysit/clean during the days and I get to stay home with my son. It is even more important now that I am pregger with #2 becasue we could never afford daycare now.

You just have to look into all your options and take opertunities.
