My Dr's office called and said that based on my glucose test my blood sugar levels were a bit elevated. I was told normal is between 3.3 and 7.8...my levels were 9.5.
I find now that I am scared to eat anything. The sites I visit say whole grains and fruits/vegetables, but...don't fruits have natural sugars in them? Isn't that bad?

I don't want to develop an eating disorder because of this...help!!

I should mention that I'm scheduled to see a dietician for Diabetic Education next week....what do I do until then??? I'm freaking out!

Eat alot of meat, veggies, and some fruit. Stay away from carbs!! They will make your blood sugar spike. Also exercise after your meals and try not to eat late at night.

You should still have fruit but limit it to a portion the size of the palm of your hand and don't eat it too often!

Weirdly, I don't find white carbs spike my levels any more than whole grains do. I test my blood glucose 4 times daily and so far there is no pattern whatsoever, I can eat exactly the same meal 2 days in a row and have completely different results. Its very weird!

Good luck!

Thank you ladies! I'm a little stressed about this, to say the least.

So, what do you snack on? I have to also watch my sodium, and we all know that lunch meats are a no-no.....I picture myself snacking on steak strips, lol, soooo lost!
I also heard some veggies are out, such as corn and peas? Tomatoes too?

Corn isn't a veggie, its a grain.

Try something like this

For breakfast, 2 eggs with some salsa and cheese and IF you need it, one slice of multigrain toast.

For a snack, plain greek yogurt with half a cup of sliced strawberries, blueberries and/or raspberries

For lunch, a large salad with mixed baby greens or baby spinach, 1 plum tomato sliced, 1/4 of a red onion sliced, 1 small cucumber sliced, a handful of walnuts, a sprinkling of pasteurized feta cheese and a grilled chicken breast with whatever dressing you normally like as long as it isn't insanely high in sugar. I generally go with olive oil and balsamic but italian, ranch etc. are generally all fine. Just look at the sugar content and if its more than 5 or 6g per serving, I would skip it. Full fat dressings are normally lower in sugar than low fat ones since the low fat/fat free ones add sugar to make up for the flavor.

Snack - 1 small apple with peanut butter or almond butter

Dinner - Steak with roasted cauliflower (just cut up some cauliflower, toss with olive oil and some spices, I add some whole garlic cloves as well and throw it into the oven on a cookie sheet. Stir once and roast for about 40 min) or broccoli with cheese as a side. If you want more carbs you can have a small baked potato.

For dessert it depends on if you are avoiding artificial sweeteners or not. Sugar free cheesecake is always yummy and sugar free jello with whipped cream is also great but if you want to avoid sweeteners an option might be to melt a couple of tbsps of semi sweet chocolate chips and just dip a few strawberries in it for some chocolate covered strawberries.

I hope that helps with some suggestions.
