So supposedly your not supposed to eat bean sprouts when your pregnant  I had an assorted plate of Chinese from the food court in the mall and I had some bean sprouts. And then when I got home part of me was thinking that I had heard your not supposed to eat these. Has anyone else had Chinese with bean sprouts? I'm assuming they are cooked and hopefully cleaned well. Should I worry?

I have been eating them throughout my pregnancy and been fine.. I think it is probably to do with them being a root vegetable and if that is the case then they are fine if they are properly cleaned. Which I assume they would be as it would be failing health and safety standards otherwise. x

I've not heard that - I ate loads the other night when I had mixed vegetables from the take away!!

I've never heard you're not supposed to eat bean sprouts and I know I have a few times this pregnancy. I can't think of any reason why you shouldn't especially if they are washed and cooked :-s

i have eaten them too. i'm sure its fine. just like any vegetable they probably just need to be cleaned well.

i've had loads of chinese takeaways with beansprouts! didnt know it was bad

If its any help I also had soft cheeses in first trimester.. before I found out I was pregnant. I have also eaten nuts including peanuts.. xx

I never heard that one ... Hope not as I ate a whole carton of them on Thursday night from the takeaway! x

I have also been eating loads of them, and havent heard not to....

I think theres SOOOOO many things we can warned of, maybe we would starve? lol

Raw beansprouts can contain salmonella/e-coli but if they're cooked well in chinese food etc, they should be fine :)

Bean sprouts are one of the worst foods for carrying samonela and they are very hard to wash properly. That's why they advise against eating them. But all that being said ts very rare there's an issue or that anyone gets sick from these. And if it was cooked then all the better. It's seriously a rare issue and I would put this in the column of - what's done is done.

I've eaten a ton of food you're "not supposed to" and baby has been fine =) I think it's good to be cautious but most of those warnings about food are probably only if they are eaten in excess.

Ive no heard of that either but I've eaten them, and salmon and goats cheese and runny egg! I always think, people in Africa feed their babies a lot worse and survive! X
