Hey ladies! I have PCOS, and let me preface this conversation by telling you I am still not pregnant, but I am on the right track!
I've been on 1500 mg of metformin for a year. I tried four rounds of Clomid with no response (no ovulation) any time. I then switched to Femara, and tried 5 mg with no ovulation. We upped it to 7.5 and still nothing. We were even planning to use a trigger shot to make me ovulate, but I never even got a follicle to the right size. I was so discouraged. This was in June. Hubby and I just decided to take a break from all of the medicine for a while.
I haven't had a natural period in roughly eight-ish years. The periods I had all came from being on the pill (for a short period of time to help regulate), or from taking progesterone. I truly can't remember the last time one came on its own. I was probably 16. I'm 25 now. So as you can see, I'm an extremely severe ovulation case.
I decided to try spearmint tea because I read that it would help lower testosterone. Mine is high, and that is part of what stops ovulation from occurring in my body. Last month, I drank two cups for two days. And for the first time in YEARS, I got a period. A true period-all on my own. I honestly don't attribute that to the tea, though, because I am thinking that it was just leftover Femara in my system. I think that I ovulated from the Femara after we deemed it a failed cycle.
Still, I continued drinking the tea. Yesterday, I was CD 27, and I felt some AF symptoms. It was just weird feeling. I got the same weird feeling before I started the month before. I don't know how to describe it. Almost a slight burning sensation in my lower tummy. Anyway, I started spotting yesterday. I was OVERJOYED! I never have any spotting, periods, etc on my own. Ever! This morning, I woke up, and I am having a light period. Today is CD 28.
A 28 day cycle.
I have NEVER in my life had that. I was lucky to get one period a year growing up before they became completely absent.
I'm not saying it's the tea because I can't know for certain, but I think it's worth a shot if you're having trouble regulating your periods!
My fertility app has my O date for CD 14. Now, I haven't been temping so I can't know if that is correct or if I'm even O'ing. But I still feel it is such a step in the right direction!
I've been using the Tazo Zen tea (it's green tea with spearmint). I pay $2.98 at Walmart for a box of 20 tea bags. Might be worth a shot!
