We aren't even pregnant yet but I've been seeing the name Aurora lately [a friend of a friend on FB] and I'm just so intregued by this name

I don't know what the nick name is supposed to be, but I figure it could be Rory ??? [A nickname I LOVE!]

[I know this is usually short for Lorelai or similar but I'm not a huge fan of Lorelai, tbh.]

Question is - how do you like the name Aurora to begin with and would the name Rory be ok as a nickname or am I reaching too far here?

Thanks :)

To me Rory would be the obvious and perfect nickname for aurora, I love Rory. definitely don't think it's far fetched as a shortened version.

Personally I'm not keen on aurora itself, sorry.

Rory is certainly a reasonable nickname for Aurora. I have also seen Aur, Audrey and Aura used as nicknames for Aurora.

I like the name well enough. It has a very good meaning, and it isn't too common.

I like Aurora and Rory is the obvious nickname I can think of (love Rory too!).

I'm not in love with the name Aurora, but I first thought of Ari for a nickname...mainly because I don't care for Rory either. Sorry I'm not much help!

Actually you're more help than you know! I really love the name Ari too! I actually thought of that as a possible name in and of itself [grew up with a boy named Ari but think it could go with either gender, imo], but it could totally work here too! Thanks!

My friend at works grandaugter is named aurora and everyone calls her rori...:)

Spelt w an i (rori) little more feminine, i acutally really like it

Beautiful name.

My Mum is called Auriol and it's is a very unique name.

Thank you ladies for your reponses! Now we're just left with the task of the getting knocked up part :haha:

I have an Aurora (1 year) and oddly enough, I dislike the idea of nicknames, but what comes out of everyone's mouth including my toddlers and cousins is Aurora Pie. ???? Her middle name is Carmen. But I do occasionally find myself slipping with Rora. So maybe thing of a one-syllable middle name to include. Adding the last syllable makes it easier to say... like Aurora Belle, Aurora Mae, Aurora Sue, Aurora Sky, or something- sorry ut my creative middle name juices are lacking. But looking back, that might have been a little easier. She's now Aurora Pie to everyone now and no one shortens her name. Which I honestly like, because I like the name Aurora, not Rory, etc. HOpe that helps. :)

Hehe how cute! Aurora Pie! :cloud9:

I never thought of Rora! Personally I think that's really pretty! Thank you! :flower:

My good friends little girl is aurorah and she gets Rori.aurorah is a pretty big mouthful especially when u have a toddler with a 2 second attention span and half of your time is used saying her name :haha:
But it's a gorgeous name I do love it

You could go all Sleeping Beauty and use Rose for Aurora.. Haha. :D I love it!
But yeah, Rory would be great. x

A girl I went to school with was Aurora (whose sister was called Flora, who was one of the good fairies!!), was called Rora by us. Which said with a Scottish accent sounds lovely.

Aurora, CO theater shooting

And now this happens in a place called Aurora :sad1:

The whole thing is devesating.
I'll probably have this sad assosiation with the name from now on

My heart absolutely breaks for the victims and their families.
