Autism, advice for a friend

Hi, my friends son is severely autistic, he's 9yrs old and has never Made a sound, totally lives in a world of his own and just states at nothing all day, he only slept about 2hrs a day until he had melatonin but he has since become amune to this And is now awake 22hrs a day in an hyper active state and only just sleeps 2hrs a day. Is there anything else her son could take. She doesn't get alot of help where she lives

Have they seen a neurologist? They can maybe suggest meds for him to take.
