Hi all,

Just wondering if you could help me out. My son has autism so I'm interested in autism as a whole and decided to put it in my homework. Basically I need to know if your happy with your child's school.

My sons first school I wasn't happy with, so he went to a special autistic school and currently thriving and is doing so well now.

Thanks for the help.

hey no im not happy with mine as i dont feel they give enough support in all areas he needs help with.

I am very happy with my son's school. We had difficulty with the first nursery he was in. He lasted only 3 sessions before they told me to remove him. They had no interest in supporting him in the slightest.

His school now is the opposite. They have worked very hard to accommodate his needs and put into play what the clinic recommends. And it shows. He loves school, has only had 2 meltdowns in two years and is keeping up academically with his peers

Yes I am very happy.

He is in reception (mainstream) and has 20hrs 1:1 support a week plus his EHC plan is in place.

They really look after him.

I am more unhappy than happy. My son is 3.5 and goes to a special needs pre-school, paid for through our public school district. I feel like the communication between his teacher, therapists, and myself is lacking. He has a notebook that goes to/from school each day, I find that I am having to write in it to ask questions about his progress vs. the other way around. I also am unhappy with our school district who decides what services my son is approved for. They try to save as much money as possible, at our most recent meeting I asked for an extra session of occupational therapy since his pre-school caps the weekly amount at 2x 30 min and the school district told me no, look though my insurance. I also asked for a behaviorist and parent training at home to help me with managing my son's behaviors and they also denied me that. It is unfortunate that they choose not to look out for the best interest of the child in order to save money (yet we pay a ton in taxes in the area where I live in).

Where do you live? These things aren't the responsibility of the school where I am from? OT is funded through NHS and completely separate from school and LDT (learning disability team) is funded by the local council and again, totally not the schools responsibility.
