Hey all,
We are going on our 4th and final around with clomid.
a bit of history

1st round Clomid 100mg CD3-7 --no results or improvement
2nd round Clomid 150mg CD3-9, Dexamethasone CD1-14 -- no results or improvement
3rd round Clomid 150mg CD3-9, Dexamethasone CD1-14, Metformin 1500mg everyday -- No results no improvement

today ive been given another drug to start, Avandia.

4th round Clomid 150mg CD3-9, Dexamethasone CD1-14, Metformin 2000mg, Avandia CD 1-14. currently waiting on a CD1 (provera induced)

I know it is a diabetic medication, like metphormin, and i know it can cause a higher rate of pregnancy. Im a bit scared to take it because of the possible heart related issues, but im confident in the 14 days im being prescribed it, ill be ok. After this round if no improvement is found at our ultrasound, we are on to injectables.

Have any of you used Avandia for fertility, have you had any success?

i also would like to say, im not diabetic, or insulin resistant (as far as i know). i am overweight and have severe PCOS. im a freaking posterchild. lol.

im just hoping to hear some stories of others experiencing this drug to put my mind at ease. My doctor saying "you'll see a lot of bad press about this drug, but you'll be ok for the 14 days you are on it, you wont have any heart problems"
Ive begun to loathe the little black ultrasound screen that constantly looks like a huge pile of tiny black bubbles rather than 1-2 BIG bubbles. i want to rip it off of the dock.

Bumping this. i find it hard to believe im the only one ever on the whole forum to be put on this drug.

I honestly haven't heard of it myself- but that doesn't mean it's a bad idea to do it. I highly doubt your doctor would do something that would jeopardize your help- he just wants to help get you preggo... and since it's only for 1 cycle- I would give it a whirl. I really hope it works for you hun!! :hugs:

Hey there. I just went to a new Fertility Specialist yesterday and He is putting me on Avandia. I just started my Provera yesterday (12 day dose) and on CD5 I go in for fasting bloodwork to confirm my insulin resistance. I know I am because my previous FS confirmed this. After the results, his plan is Glucophage and avandia combined with the clomid. I know the risks involved with the Avandia, but Im a healthy 25 year old. My Dr told me as well about all the bad press, but not to worry because thats with older people that already have problems. Good Luck hun!!!!

thanks. our first go with avandia, metformin, clomid and dexamethasone got me 2 follicles. nothing stuck on the IUI, so we are trying it again.
now i cant say the avandia 'did it', but it was on the plan when things worked so im not taking it off. it is expensive without coverage, but owell, im hoping not too many more times with that. my prescriptions each cycle are about $400 now.

some have had success with the higher metformin dose over a longer period of time, since it takes like 3 months ot really kick in. it may have just been the boost of the metformin, but i wasnt going to rock the boat.

Thanks for replying, and good luck! im off to take my boat load of evening pills !

Oh my gosh, $400?! Our insurance (with pre-auth) covers 3 cycles. I didn't realize Avandia is that expensive! I hope things work for you hun!!!! fingers crossed!!

avandia is pretty expensive. i think a month supply ranges from 230$ to 300$. that 400 for me includes my clomid, steroids, and metformin. we have no fertility coverage on my husbands plan ><

also, the avandia alternatives/ generics are much cheaper, however my doctor told me that he hasnt seen as much success with those , so not to bother at all if that was the route i wanted to take.

how did i know when i saw the title avandia that you'd be all over it brit!! :flower:

canamfam, hi  i dont know too much about any of it, but just throwing it out there...have you had your thyroid tested??

Prayin, yep, they did panels of everything before starting me on anything. everything looked fine. still crossing my fingers that this month i get 2 more follicles and can try again.
