to those who have babies with milk allergies, i just wondered if you had found any ready made foods in the supermarket that are highly reccomended that dont contain milk? Sophie is 6 months old now and been weaned since 5 months. I have been making my own dinners for her she loves fruit and veggies. But im finding it a bit hard when my friends babies can have a couple of crisps or a yoghurt for after their dinner etc and poor Sophie cant due to her allergy. SO for those who have babies with this allergy, what do you give them instead?? ta :)

Plum do a good range of milk free products. Also Organix do as well. My lo is lactose intolerant (different I know but still have to avoid milk) so I normally give him fruit after his dinner. Not the same as yogurt but hey!

We have a suspected dairy intolerance here to. Actually feel quite gutted cant give yoghurts get quite jealous when I see my friends babies with petit filous!
I am thinking just to give fruit purees for afters or my friend had some little jellies the other day. Also Plum list on their boxes whether there is dairy in the product or not.

I am increasing weaning now and am just wondering what I am going to do about making stuff as won't be able to use cheese sauces and am finding quite a lot of the recipes use dairy.

hi ya! we recently found Leah has a milk allergy and i have had one too for about 5 years now so well trained in spotting things with milk in (you wouldn't believe where it hides!) - so Leah now has:

Infasoy milk
Alpro Soya yoghurts and deserts (she loves these and they have little pieces of fruit in too)
Lots of the plain fruit tubs - pear, apple, mixed fruit etc etc
toast with Pure spread on (dairy free) or vitalite is dairy free as well
quite a few of the savoury jars are ok - they say on the allergens if milk is in it or not.
Ellas kitchen have a few that are milk free - just check the back of the pack

I was surprised how many of the baby jars don't have milk in actually, but i think it is quite common for babies to develop a milk allergy so they keep this in mind.

ETA: for brekkie (as the boxed porridges all have milk in them) we have weetabix mixed with a bit of rice milk to soften and then i either put some of the Alpro Soya yogurt in or mix some fruit in to make it sweeter! You can also buy an oaty porridge (in the normal adult breakfast cereals section) to add some rice milk to and warm in the microwave.

thanks :)

the boxed baby cereals all have milk??? are you sure? i had been giving Sophie these adding her own milk, but shes not been fussed with them so have started her on weetabix which shes much happier with anyway.

Matzo crackers are basically just flour and water with no dairy, salt, or sugar. They're pretty tasteless, but they're a good base that you can add a bit of fruit puree spread on them, for example, or mash up some fruit like banana, or a bit of avocado.

You can do the same thing with rice cakes, too. The brand I get is nothing but puffed whole grain rice with no additives.

ETA: I don't know if you have anything like these: https://www.mrwheat.com/sitefiles2/cw_original.asp but they're great too (and dairy free). The consistency of them means that they kind of melt in the mouth so they go down easy, and like the above are a good base to spread a little fruit puree or something on.

Evan has a dairy allergy and now he is reacting to soya too ....knowing what to give him is a nightmare and his weight is low......the nutritionist said no to giving rice milk as it has low levels of arsenic in it, tolerable to adults but not good for LOs.

I've been giving Lily fruit purées and soya custard on apple rice cakes, she really likes that. I couldn't find any soya youghurts at the supermarket, I didn't know if they existed or not but I will have another look next time. That would be nice with banana and strawberries.

Ella's Kitchen have some good dairy free foods.

I did some poached salmon the other day, I poached it in soya milk and water then blended it with soya cream cheese and sweet potato, she really liked this.

I find it hard to get lots of calories in her, and I've been told by my HV that she's not getting enough food so I'm trying a sorts at the moment! I will be coming back to this thread.

Alot of baby jars dont have milk in, alpro do soya yogurts although our diatician didnt try connor with soya until he was 1 and he reacts to soya aswell as having a milk allergy so we avoid that. Morrisons have a section in our local one were it has all sorts of things that are milk free
