My Samsung washing machine has a "Baby care" setting, which washes the clothes at 95degrees.. This sounds mad to me.. It wont ruin the clothes will it?? They wouldn't put the setting on the machine if it would destroy the clothes, surely? I can't find anything about it online (ie. How the clothes are actually washed in the cycle) and DH has lost the manual :dohh:

I'm tempted to try it on some of the unwanted second hand clothes I sorted through that I was going to take to the clothes recycling bank and see what happens..

From your experience, what do you think?

95 is good for soiled items and sheets and stuff but I wouldn't wash them at that temperature.. They even say washable nappies only need a 40 degree wash. Also check the spin speed. I'm washing mine on gentle with lots of conditioner and a color catcher sheet for the first wash. Once baby is here I might need yo go to a normal 40 degree wash cycle. I don't think I'll be boiling anything unless the sheets are really bad.

Yes it would ruin clothes!

Do you not think this could be for re-useable nappies?

Oh I think it would end up shrinking your delicate little baby clothes it would of been good in the old Terry toweling nappies though they would of come up lovely :-) xx

(go by the labels on the clothes not on the machine!)

It says it's specifically for baby clothes, and that's why I got confused :S It has pre-wash, wash at 95 (but it could be like, a steam wash rather than a traditional wash maybe? That's why I'm thinking this) and 1400 spin cycle :S

I'm tempted to give it a go on the second hand clothes that are no good to us.. Just so I know lol.

I always wash bedding at 60-65 (dust mite paranoia!), and everything else I wash at 30. Would 30, 40 or 65 be best for baby clothes of this "baby care" nukes these spares? I'd use Persil non-bio capsules (or equivalent) and Comfort Pure conditioner (or equivalent). And I presume it would be the full cycle (about 2 hours) and not the 29minute quick wash I use on mine and DHs clothes lol..

Can washing machines do steam? Personally id trust my instincts rather than the instruction book. I never was anything at 95!

I thought this must have been in F but I am guessing from your last post it is in C. 95C is insane. I wash baby clothes at 40C and sometimes cloth nappies at 60C but usually still 40C.

It does sound insane doesn't it!! Even the manual I EVENTUALLY found online says:

"Your Samsung washing machine includes wash programs that adds protection to the clothing of children with sensitive skin. These programs reduce skin irritation in children by minimizing detergent residue. In addition, these programs classify laundry into various types and the wash is performed according to the laundry characteristics so that children feel refreshingly clean whenever they put on their clothes."

Soo.. In that case should I just add a prewash and an extra rinse? :dohh:

i would go on the label says on the clothing and disregard that alltogether i would say the same as a previous poster this is mainly for reuseable nappies there is no way any clothes other than cotton shirts would survive a 95 degree wash :-/ especially little carigans etc
i wash all baby clothes at the same time as the rest of the clothes i did this for my first also and his skin was allways fine just make sure you use non bio soap powder etc :-)

I don't think I've ever washed anything at 95C in my life  Even cloth nappies (with the exception of the old style cotton terry squares) can only be washed up to a max of 60C!!

I wash all of Findlay's stuff (clothes, sheets, nappies etc) at 40C and they are all perfectly clean
