Still Prego. I was washing sorting clothes and stashing them and I came up with a question.
I got a ton of sleepers and sleep bags and a few swaddlers.

My question is if I swaddle, just a onesie under it , right?

Swaddle. Sleep bag or sleeper. What's your favorite and why. Or how long do you swaddle.

I'm feeling overwhelmed at 31+ weeks.

What you put under a swaddle depends on the temperature of the room and the thickness of the swaddle blanket.

My favourite is whichever baby likes! DS liked to be swaddled and I swaddled him until he learned to roll at 4 months. DD doesn't like to be swaddled so she's in sleeping bags. I find sleeping bags easier, they have a minimum weight limit though which was fine for my dd but my DS was too small for them when he was born.

You need to be careful with swaddling as it can increase the risk of SIDS once babies start to roll. My MW told me that it's no longer recommended at all for safety reasons but I did do it with my son. I stopped at about two months, as soon as he was starting to look interested in rolling over. This time around I haven't swaddled, we just used cellular blankets for the first couple of weeks and have now moved onto sleeping bags which I prefer.

I found sleeping bags most convenient, and safe too. If you use one, this chart is really helpful when deciding how to dress the baby inside the bag, according to the temperature of the room and tog of the bag:

Good luck when your baby arrives!

I swaddled until 3/4 months then sleeping bags after that.

We swaddled until the startle reflex went away. Before that, DS would startle himself awake constantly if put on his back asleep. Then he just wouldn't sleep at all on his back so we resorted to bed sharing without the swaddle and then eventually he moved to a swing to sleep in, again no swaddle. Now he's in his own crib with a sleeping bag. I guess what i want to say is that every baby is different and you just have to have a bunch of things ready to try at the beginning when you're trying to figure out what your baby wants... And keep I mind what they want will be changing too.

My LO hated all of it and we ended up cosleeping so she just wore sleepers. I think it's very much a wait and see what your baby likes/doesn't like thing.

If you do swaddle it's recommended that you stop once they can roll over.

He likes to be swaddled but only when he is overly tired. Other than that we do sleepers. No sleep bags or swaddles to bed. When he does get swaddled it's when I'm awake and holding him because I won't do it while I'm asleep as well since we cosleep. My first liked the bags though and hated being swaddled in any way shape or form. Each baby is different though so you have to be ready to adjust accordingly. Good luck!

Thanks ladies. I have some of the open bottom dress sleepers. I guess that's the " bag " I meant. For easy diaper change

Oh okay I thought you were talking about those things that were like swaddles but they zip up onto the baby like an outfit! My son pretty much lives in those, my older one did as well. They are a life saver for night changes imo keeps baby from completely waking and makes it easier for you as well! I call them baby dresses :haha:

With my daughter I swaddled in a celular blanket until about two months when she started to Co sleep. I never used sleeping bags. This time I sometimes swaddle in the day but he Co sleeps with me at night for now but I'm planning to move him to sleeping bags and in his cot at some point xx

We never swaddled. We co-slept and it would have just seemed weird if she couldn't freely move during night feeds. We used a sleeping bag. You dress them underneath however warm you need to depending on the temperature of the room. Usually the gro bags have a temperature chart on the back of the packaging. I just followed that.

We keep our bedroom cool, so I do a light sleeper or gown under a SwaddleMe. I have a few sleepsacks for when he starts to roll, but he sleeps so well now, I'm not looking forward to switching over.

I have the open onsie looking ones too. They are like a long onsie dress almost lol. Those and sleep bags are awesome! I haven't swaddled yet, baby dosent seem to like having her legs constricted.

Swaddled dd till around 2 months then started putting her in a sleeping bag. Under the swaddle a vest and sleep suit. Same with the sleeping bag vest and sleep suit.

I'm still swaddling ds but it seems he sleeps fine without it so we might start using a sleeping bag soon.

Some babies don't like the swaddle at all. Both mine seem annoyed by it but at the same time it seemed to help them sleep at the beginning.
