Hi ladies,

I have 3 monthish daughter, we bought baby carrier Mothercare and we want to go shopping with it. Have you experience, how long babies can be in carriers?
She has her head upright in it, so I am worry she will be tired soon..

As long as the head is supported, she will probably be quite happy in there for as long as you like. My LO still sleeps in hers - she just nuzzles in and drops off!

It depends on how long she is happy in there :flower:

At 3 months old Rhys would stay in the carrier for ages. Now we can get 45 minutes to an hours use out of the carrier before he wants to be out

The carrier you have got, i would not use it long. They do not give great hip support for baby and are not great on your back.

A carrier that has the proper hip support you can use for hours.

A carrier is so useful for shopping! As long as baby is well supported (head not flopping back, weight supported and not dangling from the crotch) baby can stay in there until he or she starts fussing (in my experience this is when she decides she wants to eat!).
Which carrier have you got?

To be honest, with that sort of carrier (where there is no knee to knee support) you'll find you tire before she does!

She will be absolutely fine with her head upright, you can carry a baby for hours if you want to without them being affected. But unfortunately, the type of carriers sold on the high street are not comfortable for the wearer beyond about 3 months.

If you can, try to get a carrier with knee to knee support for the baby. Like a Connecta or similar and take the Mothercare one back :) you'll honestly feel the difference!

Good luck :)

My LO could live in her ergo. She has loved it since I put her in it at 3 weeks. Her first smile was in her ergo.

Sorry to gatecrash but after some advice too - I have a caboo dx carrier that I would love to use soon (my lo is 2 weeks), I have put her in it and it feels fab, but I really dont know how best to dress her in this weather - should I use a pramsuit, or just a coat.... should she wear a hat even though the material pulls/supports her head into my chest?! I am soooo confused with carriers - I understand you should dress them in one less layer but it seems soooo cold!! :)

Sorry to hijack!!!

Bear in mind your body heat will keep them nice and toasty too :) Dress your LO in lots of thinner layers rather than less thicker layers. That way you can adjust much more easily.

I would avoid the pramsuit for that reason.

My LO is usually in a long sleeved vest, tights, long sleeved cotton top, trousers, jumper, fleece jacket, hat and then the carrier (I wrap as well as use more structured carriers, so bear in mind if you're wrapping that could be another 3 layers on them too :) ) then if she's wearing a skirt, I put legwarmers over her tights. Shoes too of course!

We always have a hat with us too. I've also got a sort of baby cape thing, which has a hood. So if it's really cold, I'll put that on her too so it's tucked inside the carrier, as an extra layer.

Then depending on the weather, a babywearing coat on top (so it has a panel that goes over baby and attaches to your coat too :) )

With all those layers, I can remove if I feel she's getting too warm, but she's never cold with all that :)

When I wear my baby in the wrap I just dress her in her normal indoor clothing, plus a hat and a pair of booties. Then I zip my warm coat up around us both. This is enough to keep us both snug.
