Baby cries when I blow my nose!

I have an interesting dilemma! My LO cries REALLY hard when I blow my nose, sneeze, or cough! It's his distressed cry where he turns all red and forgets to breathe, it's awful. I just came down with a really bad cold and can't quite help it as my nose is like a leaky faucet right now.

I kept waking him up last night, and he would bawl. It took forever to get him to go back to sleep, and I ended up sneaking off and sleeping in another room. He woke up at 3am, usually he would just look at me and go back to sleep, since I wasn't there he had a fit. I came in and did a quick comfort feed, my nose was going bonkers and I could barely breathe so I blew my nose. Bad idea! It took me almost 2 hours to console him!

Any other LO's who do this? I feel so bad for him!

I haven't had a cold but before my LO was laughing there was a thread about what makes other LOs laugh and someone said sneezing. I did a pretend sneeze at my little girl and she did that ahhhhh-the-world-is-ending cry.

Sorry I don't have advice (apart from the nostril stuffing not really sure if I'm serious about that) but hopefully your LO gets used to it? and realises you're ok.

Sorry but this made me giggle. My LO did the same thing for a few days and I couldn't stop laughing every time it happened. I felt horrible but it's just so cute.

Anyway, no advice, but it should just pass on its own once he gets used to it. Hope you feel better!

Aww lol you poor thing. Having a cold is hard enough!!

Are you holding LO while blowing? I find mine is startled if ive been holding him quietly and suddenly sneeze cough or even a light sniffle and he startles and sometimes freaks out.

Thank you. Truth be told, I actually DID stuff tissues up my nose while I took a nap today because I was trying to avoid blowing it. I was going to do it tonight too if I absolutely have to!

I do think it's cute, but feel bad at the same time. Poor guy just gets scared. He hates loud noises or people sounding like they're in distress. We were watching a tv show with the volume down really low, and someone yelled at someone else on the show, and he just bawled. I was surprised because the volume was down to like 15 out of 100! We even had subtitles on because we couldn't hear that well.

Rewind to a month and a half ago, and I thought he had hearing problems because he wouldn't respond to loud noises. Now he can't stand them.



LittleOnes: He's doing it whenever I'm near him, even if I'm not holding him. My DH was playing with him last night, and I was walking out of the door while blowing my nose and he freaked out. He was at the opposite side of the room so there was a good 15 feet between us!

Mine can be like that too now, especially over the last month. I think as they get older they just become so much more in tune that they can get sensitive to that stuff. Mine will be happy and if I talk sternly or yell at the dog the baby starts screaming!

Mine does the same when anyone sneezes. Everytime she sneezes I pretend sneeze back at her and she loves it, but when I do a real sneeze she's inconsolable! It does make me giggle sometimes but then I feel terrible! I'm getting a blocked nose at the moment so I'm dreading how she's goingto react when I have sneezing fits!

Do it quietly then lol. My mum and oh cough, sneeze and blow their nose like fog horns which scares Rory. Apart from coughing I've learnt to do the other two almost silent lol. Xx

My guy reacted that way to burps! If I burped it was all over!

He grew out of it though.

Omg, I did a sneeze and LO froze like I turned into the boogie monster and when I tried to console him he just screamed louder. Thank goodness DH was home and took him. over a half hour to get him calmed down from screaming bloody murder. My dad blew his nose and same thing.

My little boy used to cry his heart out when i blew my nose or sneezed, not good when suffering from hayfever! He did get used to it after a few days, now he laughs at me as i always say after "silly mummy!" i do sound like an elephant lol

The newest thing that terrified him was a turtle shaped swim float. His reaction was priceless... Evil mummy!

When I was a baby, I would scream bloody murder if my dad sneezed... My parents don't know why, it was only when he would sneeze, no one else babies do strange things lol. I hope you feel better soon

Our LO recently just started to cry whenever DH or I sneeze or cough. He used to be oblivious to loud noises but now he's jumpy, startles easily and cries. I hope it is just a phase.

My lo cries whenever someone other then me or herself sneezes, when either or us sneeze it's funny. She thinks coughing is hilarious though and laughs and tries to copy it whenever someone coughs.
