DS has one bottle a day. We use tomme tippee CTN bottles. Recently he has been sucking in the teat and kind of inverting it. Is this normal? Is there anything I can do to stop it?

He is also latching very badly on the breast at the moment which I believe is due to the effect his newly emerging teeth are having on his lip tie. We are waiting on an appointment to have the lip tie seen. Could there be a connection between his poor latch at the breast and his inverting the teat on the bottle?

How do you mean inverting it? The teat goes flat? Or it gets sucked into the bottle?

The TT CTN bottles are notorious for collapsing teats, usually it's because the vent (that little v-shaped thing) has gotten clogged shut. I used to always give ii a bit of a squeeze to make sure it would open nd that generally solved it.

If that's not the issue, I'm not sre, sorry! TT have a customer care email address and also a telephone helpline, so they might be able to suggest something

As PP said, the vent needs to be pinched to allow airflow. This link will help if that is the problem.

I use Dr Browns bottles just for that problem. I think the collapsing nipple leads to a lot of air being swallowed. No problems with Dr Browns.

My LO dose it as well it is when the vent is stuck just give it a squeeze like the outher pps have said

my bottles wer doin this i put DS up a size to the vari flow one and that sorted it

Eala, yes they are collapsing, that's a much better way of describing it.

So I've gone and had a look at my bottles. My teats seem to be missing the vent and say anti colic on them. I brought them when DD was tiny and combi fed and kinda remember buying new teats. But I gave all my bottle feeding stuff away minus 2 big bottles to my sister when she was pregnant, so I haven't got the original teats. I do remember seeing vents on them so I suppose that must have been on the old teats.

Could it be that he's too big for these teats now and needs ones with a vent?

He's getting very annoyed with them at bottle o'clock as I keep having to take the bottle out to re inflate the teat.

Hmm the only TT ones without a vent which I know of are for the Anti Colic PLUS bottles, which are the Dr Brown-like ones with the central spout. I found the labelling/positioning of the teats next to the normal TT CTN bottles to be so confusing, back in the day.

If you're using just the normal CTN bottles (with no spout in the middle) you need the normal teats with the little vent in them.

Sorry for being the bearer of bad news!

dom does this to his avent bottle teat, but only when he is 'tranced out' or when he wants his 'dreamfeed' at 10pm...its like he draws on it so long and hard the teat gets sucked together, the only thing that released it was me wiggling the teat in his mouth, then the teat would pop and bubbles would fill the bottle, i have a habit of squeezing any air out of the bottle via the base of the teat if it happens. Don't know if the same applies to TT teats though hun HTH's :hugs:
