Fount out today that my little man is deaf in his right ear  he failed his test when the health visitors first came out so he had to go to audiology yesterday and it's come back he has glue ear.

I had glue ear as a toddler and had endless of operations growing up and it came back again at 21 but my ear drums are that badly scared I now have to use hearing aids.

It affected my speech growing up and still does now and I'm 28

I just worry about when he starts school as kids can be so cruel x

It must be hard to find out that your child has to face the same struggles that you did growing up- but, I honestly believe that children these days are no where near as mean as they used to be. Schools really crack down on teasing and bullying and it isn't tolerated anymore. Also, because you know what he will be going through, you can relate well to any concerns he has, and can offer good advice :flower:
Big hugs! :hugs:

Sorry to about your little boy. Try not to worry about other children. I agree they are so much nicer these days and you will be able to help and guide him better!

My DD has a strawberry mark which is red and noticeable on her eyebrow. Not one child has mentioned it!. Its normally adults!.

Children are so innocent and very accepting. I am sure he will be fine! Take care x

As others have said schools are very different these days, and we seem to live in a much more accepting society. Also medical advances and technologies will likely mean the medical side of things is much more plain sailing than your experience. My Mum has just got a hearing aid and it is a million miles more advanced and tiny than the big thing my Great Grandma had just 20 years ago.
All that said, I'm sorry to hear of the diagnosis and am sending you a hug, it's never nice to know your child is going to have to face any medical intervention xxx

I didn't think that glue ear was the same as permanent deafness? Sorry if I'm confused, but I thought glue ear was from blocked tubes in the ear and that it can resolve over time or be treated with antibiotics or grommets? My niece had glue ear and had grommets and her ears are now fine. Again, sorry if I'm confused.

In some cases children have grommets and it goes away over time in other cases it can carry on in adolescence and cause permanent damage, I was one of the unfortunate ones who has permanent damage it depends on the individual Hun not every case is the same I'm afraid x
