Hi ladies,

I've noticed recently that my baby isn't responding to noises I make. Even really loud things like the vacuum. It could be right next to him and he doesn't notice. I did the tests they had for hearing on baby center (like clapping behind their head), and he isn't responding to any of them.

 I'm really worried. His hearing tested fine in the hospital though. Is it possible he could have lost his hearing since? He has an appointment on Monday, I'm going to ask then, but I'd really like some advice/opinions. Has anyone else had a baby that didn't respond to noises but hears alright?

I'm going out of my mind about this. I'll love my little boy no matter what, but I'm really scared that he may not be able to hear very well if at all.

Bring your lo to the doctor. We have friends whose daughter was completely deaf. They didn't know until she was about 9 months old. At 18 months old she got cochlear implants and now you would never ever know that she is deaf. Hopefully your lo just isn't easily startled or bothered by noises though.

Thank you. :hugs: He has an appointment on Monday. I have heard of the cochlear implants. It's just really scary, when he didn't respond to the tests I cried.

My lo is just a few days younger then yours and I have been worried about this as well... was clapping my hands, calling her name, snapping my fingers, had my other children playing and running around. Nothing seemed to work for 2 days or so until.. I make this elephant noise she loves and sure enough I was doing that and she about twisted her head off to see around her swing to see me and she had the biggest smile ever.... maybe its just a phase they go thru? I am going to ask her dr as well when she has her 2 month vaccinations , I remember my other girls being way more aware of sounds.
I hope your lo has no hearing problems and surprises you out of no where with a certain sound :hugs:

when my boy was first born he never reacted to loud noise, he wouldn't even flinch from his nap if i had the vacuum on..now its a different story, hes cries whenever he hears it!

Can babies get glue ear? Has he had a cold lately or bug?

Only my toddler got it and a health visitor picked up she was lipreading i was horrified i had not noticed as she was so clever. Proper hearing test and definitely down with hearing. Of course by the time we got an appt with the next department where they look with a camera 3 months later it had naturally cleared up.

He hasn't been sick but he does get stuffed up a lot.

I did a test with music through earbuds. I put music on and put the bud up to his ear, he jerked away. I muted it and put it up to his ear and he stayed still. I'm still going to get it checked out, but it looks like he can hear, at least a little bit! Fingers crossed that he's just not easily startled.

We were worried about the same with with our little one and the doctor told us that they don't generally start looking towards sound until 3 months or so. The only time I notice that LO hears something is when its super startling, and then he will jump.

The tests they do in the hospital or at least with mine showed brain wave patterns when the sounds went off. Much more accurate than clapping. Young babies can easily tune out! Hope you get good results Monday!

Ps, love your LOs shirt in your avatar. My LO was wearing a flyers shirt today :)

yep same, DS didn't react to noises at all for at least a couple of months. He just didn't seem to notice them. Now he turns his head at everything and stops feeding with new noises in the room.

I agree you should still ask them to repeat the hearing test though.

Thanks ladies. :hugs: I feel a lot better! He seems to react to some noises, oddly enough they're small noises. I'll definitely ask anyway, but I feel much more optimistic about it than I did last night. I woke my husband up at 3am bawling because I was so scared when he wouldn't react to the tests I did!

Jaylynne - Nice! I need to get him some phillies onesies still even though they haven't been doing too hot. I tried to get into hockey but couldn't. It did take me 4 years of watching football with DH to get into that though. :haha: Are you from PA?

I'll PM you, I actually have some eagles, phillies and flyers gear for him lol. Had to!
