I am not a hand sanitizer mommy but i recently got a bottle to use for after diaper changes.

after changing my 7 week old's diaper I reached for the pump but there must have been pressure in the bottle or something as instead of it squirting in my hand it squirt across the changing table and onto his head, forehead and above the lip. he made a sucking noise right then so I assumed some of it ended up in his mouth too.

we don't have a poison control center but I called our local er and the dr doesn't think there's a problem. he says as long as there isn't a problem with his breathing then he should be ok. told me to try giving him a feed.

the thing is...ds fell asleep while I was on the phone. he was asleep before that whole mess and was crying in his sleep. I took him out of his bassinet to change his diaper and feed him as it's been a few hours. he did drink his bottle just fine but was asleep while drinking it and is still asleep. I'm really terrified because of the alcohol content.

I realize it's a lot for something that I'm not 100% sure happened...but I really can't help it. it's night time here and I really doubt I'll be getting any sleep. feeling so dizzy from worry :( any similar experiences or positive stories please

Don't worry, by the sounds of things if any did get in his mouth, it would have been a really tiny amount and not enough to do any damage, plus although it doesn't taste good, anything that goes on your hands really isn't going to be toxic since your hands are used for eating and preparing food so they wouldn't make it harmful. I know it's scary when something like that happens and they're so little but I really really don't think you have anything to be worried about x

ETA: the alcohol content really would be tiny and wouldn't be enough to cause any harm. In our parents' day they used to put a drop of whiskey in the bottles to help babies sleep! I'm not advocating that as good practice(!) but I am sure your LO will be just fine x

thank you for your response! it's so hard not to panic and even if I don't panic so badly I get worked up for not panicking and then I panic more. I still panic over things that happen with my dd as well.

I agree with pp and Dr. I'm sure he is fine. But I know how hard ot can be not to worry about things like this. As long as he isn't vomiting, he has a normal temp, breathing good, and eating fine I would try and not worry. While hand sanitizer does have alcohol content in it (as long as your kind uses it as some dont contain it) the alcohol content is small, and the kind of alcohol (its like rubbing alcohol) would make someone really vomity if ingested, and would probably accompany a temperature. Try to not worry. If nothings happened by now, nothing will happen most likely.
