on Sat evening i lost my mucous plug at 36+1 but i didn't think much of it. i woke up 8am Sun morn n was rather wet got up n waters were definately going, i rang labour ward they said to get up n ready n pop ova to get fluid checked but not to rush, had no pain what so eva so was sent home and told if he hadnt arrived by 3pm Mon i was going to be induced becos of infection risk, i went to my last antenatal class which was booked n then had lunch with mum. 5pm i started gettin slight niggles but not bad went to bed at 10pm as thought i shud get some sleep 10.30pm pain was increasing so had a bath n paracetamol by 1am i couldnt cope so rang up n was told to come to hosp for a check n some codeine then will b able to go home again. Got there and the head midwife said do u know u are now high risk u cant go back home as waters have been gone ova 12 hours and baby is early!
I went to antenatal ward and was given codeine which i then sicked up, i was sick after every contraction! 4am i was asking for an epidural n they sent me for a lavendar bath which made no difference. 5am they gave me a meptid n anti sickness inj which didnt take the pain away but relaxed me and felt sooo much better OH rang my mum even though the hosp kept saying it would b ages yet. 6.30am mum arrived and pain was back, i started asking for more pain relief was told to breathe through it as the sooner i had more relief the less options there are and if the contractions aren't regular i will need an induction drip at 7.30am due to a deceleration.
7am i said please can i have another injection, they said ok as soon as we do an internal exam we can discuss options, phew but then they said we are taking you to delivery room now and they will do internal there i went to the toilet n felt immense pressure told my mum who told midwife but she jst said breathe! the midwife who i originally met 8am the day before came to take me to delivery and she said your not smiling anymore!!! got the same pain relief speech breathe blah blah. 8.15am i got my very first and only internal check and she said oooooh your baby is here next contraction push, were you secretly wanting to push? 8.44am he was out and they said wow you have done amazingly having no pain relief since 5am esp for a 1st baby!!! ehhhh???? did you miss my constant begging and moaning.. they offered me some gas and air while they did my stitches but i figured there wasnt much point as it might make me sick and i'd done the rest without it. the midwife was lovely and helped me massively and i found the experience was a positive one. so happy baby is here i'd resigned myself to thinkin he would be late!
Baby Owen is in scbu at the moment as he has respiratory distress syndrome from being a bit early but is doing really well and has just started taking my expressed milk through a tube. He weighed 6lb 13 1/2 another 4 weeks and he would have been a lot more painful
an amazing few days sorry its a bit long!
