My 3 week old has a rash all over his body. It's sort of under his skin. Not bumpy, it doesn't bother him and he's not running a fever.

Does anyone know what this could be?

Thanks for your time.

My skin sometimes looks like this when I get cold ... did you notice it while he had all his clothes off, or did you take his clothes off to look at the rash?

Conversely, it could well be a heat thing. Their sweat glands are underdeveloped to begin with and it plays havoc with their skin.

Very young babies are prone to all sorts of random skin complaints ... they're like aliens in a foreign climate as soon as they hit the air. If he doesn't seem ill, I wouldn't worry, but obviously keep an eye on him and get it looked at if it persists for more than a couple of days.

He's really cute!

I thought the same thing about being cold. My baby looks just like that when cold and out of the bath. It always passes when dressed :flower:

Love the look on his little face :)

Thanks for the replies. I totally agree that skin looks like that when it is usually cold. The thing is though, he was sweating a few days prior to this picture. I think he gets a little hot wearing long sleeved pajamas with feet to bed. I wear pants and a long sleeved shirt to bed because our house is a bit cold so I thought he would be cold too. Also, 2 days prior to this I had to take a car ride for about an hour and he was totally sweating when I got him out. Made a sweat stain on the car seat. So, I think it's a hot thing, but again, I'm not sure. His skin is warm every time I feel it and his temperature is usually 97.6-98.5.

I have a hot baby too. Especially when she's asleep - she sweats like crazy. There is no harm in leaving him without a vest underneath his outer clothes or leaving his blanket off if you feel he is too warm. I started out following the rule that she should always wear one more layer than whatever I was wearing, but after a while I realised that wasn't really working for us. A lot of the time she was actually more comfortable wearing less clothing than I was!

They're all different. I think I was the same as a baby/young child - I remember my sister saying it was nice sleeping with me because I was like a little radiator. These days, though, I'm usually too cold and can be found louging around in sweats and slippers lol.

Funny, my husband is also a heater!! I think baby takes after him. Went to doctor this morning and he really can't diagnose it. Baby is perfectly healthy. He just said that babies get all sorts of skin rashes and said to notify him if anything gets worse. It gets worse when he's hot so I'm sure it has something to do with him "running hot", ha ha.

Lol, aww that's good that he's perfectly healthy! Just keep him cool then I guess. Glad it's nothing to worry about - you've just got yourself a sizzlin' little man. :haha:
