Hello! My 6 month old now gets up on his knees But only ever goes backwards, but in the last few days hes started rocking on all fours! In peoples experiences how long did it take your little one to crawl once they started rocking? I know all babies are different im just wondering my 1st born never did this x

Ugh this was such a frustrating stage for us! It felt like it took forever to get forward motion. In reality it was probably about 6 weeks between getting on hands and knees, then rocking, then going backwards, then finally going forwards.

Just a heads up, sleep was horrendous for us while she was learning to crawl. As soon as we put her in the cot within 30 seconds she was on all fours rocking! It was like she couldn't turn her brain off to sleep, we have it again now but with pulling to stand.....zzzz!

I think it varies. My dd took months to crawl but didn't rock consistently for very long. I think it's a step in the right direction even though there's no telling when the crawling will actually take place.

I can't remember the exact length of time now but I remember thinking it was right away. Agree with the sleep tho. It took him an hour to sleep each night bc he just rocked when I laid him down lol. He wasn't disruptive or fussy, he was very content, just rocking away haha

My LO has been going backwards/rocking for about 4 weeks now lol

It's so frustrating!

He started about 3 weeks ago and it started with trying to get on all fours then a week later pushing himself bavkwards and then 2 days ago he started rocking! I can imagion its quite hard to grasp how to actually go forward must admit its so cute watching him rock lol xx

DD2 was rocking and going backwards for about a month and has just started crawling the last couple of days

Both of my DS's did this. It wasn't long at all before they started to crawl. Two weeks tops before we had some forward progress I think.

It was so cute and they would get so excited while doing it.

From rocking, it wasn't that long to actually crawling, he'd been army crawling a couple of weeks before he rocked, then we'd tempt him with toys and he'd very wobbly move forward a bit. From being wobbly it probably took about 2 weeks to be a confident crawler, we went on holiday with a stationary baby, and came back with a mobile one! Lol. But as soon as he crawled he pulled up and cruised too - although he was 8 months when he started confidently crawling!
