How do you keep your babies rolls (mostly under neck) clean and dry. Well mostly dry because everyday I move his neck around to clean in between his rolls and some spots are red and irritated. He hates me cleaning it and he stretches his neck sometimes and i'm thinking that he is irritated on his neck under his chin. It sounds stupid like I could just wash and dry, but it doesn't seem to be working because he seems to get sweaty there. Should I use powder? I heard that using powder is not good.

He's 17lbs at 3 months so he's a big boy with lots of rolls ;)

Ahh, I love baby rolls!

My son gets irritated in his rolls, too, no matter how adamant I am about keeping them clean and dry. Sometimes I use butt cream if the creases get red, and other times I will use powder if there is no broken skin. As long as the powder is cornstarch and not talc, it's okay. Underneath his neck, I would recommend putting the powder on your hands first and then spreading it around, instead of pouring it directly from the container onto his neck.

Constantly wipe it down, especially after feeds. Use bibs if needed (that's mostly what I did). If it seems a little irritated, coconut oil does wonders!

I dab cornstarch on with my finger if his DS has any irritation. I just do it couple of times a day of it's needed. Works great to keep it dry.

I just wash with cotton wool and make sure to dry thoroughly by stretching out the skin. If it seems irritated I put a little a and d butt ointment on.

Thank you for your replies! I put some Baby Aquaphor on the red spots and they went away within hours.

Nappy rash cream or cornstarch worked on Sophies rolls :-)

My little guy has sore neck rolls and no matter how often I clean the red patches smell a bit funny... Is this a job for the doctor?

Probably not, at least not a "little bit funny" smell, as I am pretty sure I know what you are talking about. My DD's rolls (if they smell) either (rarely) smell of old milk, usually if there is a smell it's a mild funk kind of smell.

I am very familiar with this smell, as it's the same type of smell you get from piercing discharge. It is referred to comically as "piercing cheese", and it's the same smell my baby's knee rolls get under them sometimes. It's funny. I usually just wipe with a wipe and it goes away. It's just the smell of dead skin and sebum. Fun stuff.

I would just make sure it gets dry after cleaning, and make sure you don't have any soap or wipe residue lingering, especially if it is continuing to stay red. I would mention it at your next checkup if it persists, but I doubt it requires a special visit.

Thanks miss, that's the one! Cream cheese...mmm! I've just kept cleaning and drying and adding Sudocrem and they're a lot less smelly today!
