I can't believe she is finally here, at 10 days overdue my gorgeous daughter made her way into the world, the day before I was due to be induced. :cloud9:

On the 22nd Feb I had my second sweep, I didn't expect it to work and even though I started getting irregular mild contractions after I didn't get excited, I thought they would fizzle out and I would need to be induced.

On the 23rd I was still having mild contractions and throughout the day they were getting more painful, I still thought nothing of it as they were all over the place and quite a few didn't hurt at all, By the evening I was beginning to suspect it might be labour, but was still unsure, I rang our childcare and went into the birthing centre to be checked.

When I got to the birthing centre everything slowed right down, I was checked and was 2-3cm dilated and my heart sank, I was given the option of going for a walk for a while or going home, we chose the walk and around midnight began to potter around the hospital. It was freezing and while I was walking about the contractions got closer together, about 3 minutes apart.

At 1.30am I went back to be checked and after some tea and toast I was 3cm and "very soft and stretchy" I was really upset that it was taking it's time, by this point the contractions were really sore, and in my back. I chose to go down to the ward overnight rather than go home and tried to get some sleep before my next check.

When I got into the bed the contractions changed, they were still not properly regular but the pain was so much more intense, I spent the next few hours switching between curling in a ball crying and hobbling back and forth to the loo as every time I had a contraction I really needed to pee.

I was certain that she was in a bad position, which was one of my major fears about labour after having a bad time with my son, and when I was checked next and they told me she was back to back I really really panicked. They also told me I was 7cm which was amazing, I couldn't believe I had got to 7cm with a back to back baby with no pain relief!

I was taken up to labour ward as I wanted an epidural and when I got up there I got settled into my room and moved about between contractions. I still needed to pee with every contraction, but by now I just couldn't go. The MW told me it was probably too late for an epidural so I tried a few puffs of gas and air. I HATED it and threw the nozzle at my poor OH.

After about 20 minutes I asked for the epidural, I knew deep down it was too late as I was starting to feel a bit pushy with the contractions, but I wasn't coping with them at all, I was panicking and terrified there would be complications and the pain was indescribable. My back felt like my spine and tailbone were being crushed and my pelvis was agony, like it was being ripped apart. Each contraction would have me wishing I could just pass out from the pain, I think the midwife was getting annoyed by how badly I was coping with it, but it was so so painful and intense.

The midwife went to get the epidural trolley and when she got back I tried to push a little with the contractions, I didn't feel an urge to push, it just felt like the right thing to do, they didn't really do much as I was only doing little ones, but after a few contractions my waters exploded everywhere on the floor.

At this point the last few minutes just blur together, as soon as my waters broke the midwife started yelling at me to get on the bed, I glanced at the floor and my waters were yellow-green and I knew straight away that it meant my baby had done a poo and I was terrified, I got to the bed and before I got on the midwife checked baby's heartbeat and it was 50 and I watched it drop to 40, she got OH to press the alarm and they helped me onto the bed.

I started pushing with every bit of energy I had, The first few pushes I felt her come right down the birth canal, only to slide right back up, so with the next contraction I pushed as hard as I could and her head came out, the MW told me to stop pushing at the point, but I couldn't and her body zoomed straight out after. My beautiful daughter was born screaming her head off at 8.25am weighing 8lbs :cloud9:

I only got a few minutes skin to skin and I didn't get to feed her straight away which upset me, but where she came out so fast I got a second degree tear along my old episiotomy scar which needed stitching and they wanted to check her over, so she spent most of her first hour with her daddy.

We were discharged less than 4 hours after Sophie was born and settled in nicely at home, the older 2 love their new baby sister and I am so happy that our rainbow is finally here.

Sorry if everything is a bit jumbled, when things kicked off it went so so fast, the first stage is recorded as 1 hour 20 minutes, with only 5 minutes of pushing!
